My overall experience has been fantastic so far! I've made a great group of friends because my class is so small, and we have a laugh with the tutors. I have excelled my expectations with grades and achieved A's and B+'s in my first year thanks to my tutors help and the content they deliver. The lessons are completely related to the job you want to do, and the course has made Me rethink what career I want to do because it takes you down so many higher paying jobs! I've learnt laws and legislations and skills that will benefit me in my future career and its only been first year! No one is judgemental which is great because I like to dress in all colours usually, but you can literally be yourself as the uni is inclusive and diverse. During the coronavirus, teaching has remained and all tutors have been in regular contact to make sure I'm OK and if I need any help. Theyve even worked out of hours to provide one to one support to get me through assignments! Really gone above and beyond! All materials have still be accessible.
There are staff which can support you in finding placements or work, they will even help write a CV. There is a careers department situated in the College Campus and you can make an appointment and they are always there for assistance!
Things I like the most: Small classrooms so you get more time with the tutors during lessons to have your questions answered - you are given workshops just before an assignment is due -any content taught in class is uploaded to moodle so you can access it anytime -doing the course over 3 days has meant there is enough time to study before going home to make tea and breaks are provided inbetween lessons -practical activities are delivered to help you learn new skills -you are never made to do something you're extremely uncomfortable with, e.g shouting out in class, working in groups for a class activity (obviously for set assignments which require presentations etc you would have to dicuss that with the tutor) -study skills lessons are tailored to help you with anything you or the class is struggling with -you are taught how to do assignments like referencing etc before your first lot of assignments are due in Least things I like: -we need more time in research lessons -having work due in first thing after Christmas break but if it not feasible to be handed in on that date after Christmas, the tutors tend to reschedule it so everyone is given a fair opportunity
The University has a library with a wide range of books and computers. The canteen is brilliant for if you want to bring your own lunch or buy your lunch and sit with friends! Each facility is easy to find and each have friendly staff to assist you. The toilets are always clean and stocked up and everywhere is always clean and tidy! 4th floor have amazing facilities if you take up a course around creativity.
The support has been fantastic! Honestly this is one of the best things about Blackburn uni. The disability team are there every step from when you first encounter them, to help you through the process of vetting help/support relating to your disability. The tutors are brilliant, always make time for you if you want to just have a chat, talk about something personal or get extra help with the work. They can all be accessed through seeing them in their offices, or via email or phone. They even go above and beyond when it's past their working hours! I haven't had counselling from the uni but I do get access to a specialist mentor, and I believe they are extremely good at supporting you each week. Feedback is always well informed on assignments and the tutors are on hand to dicuss the feedback even further if you want it to help further your academic skills. You do get a one to one with the academic tutor to make sure you are OK, see if there is anything you're struggling with etc and make next steps on how these can be achieved.
So far my experience has been challenging, learning again after years away from education, yet it has been so fulfilling, the photography department is a wonderful hub of activity, students from all The three years cross paths within the week, and are respectful and helpful to each other. We have a fantastic team of tutors who without doubt go above and beyond for all the students. The tutors are amazing, our course have a fantastic team that communicate effectively to the students and each other. I Have personally enjoyed the how we evaluate our images as a class, this brings a trust and support to the group that is unique of any other course or work place I have experienced. The tutors are available and understand that as a mature student we have life’s and commitments outside of class and try to accommodate. I have only positives to say about the teaching. It has been a wonderful experience so far.
The facilities at Blackburn college are fantastic. The resources are helpful and saved me a fortune. Student’s have access to free Microsoft Office, which is a necessity with course work. Another Important resource is the student One Drive, this for my photography course in particular is a must to store all work and images safely. The library is helpful too with lovely staff. My photography course requires an up to date studio with relevant equipment to manage our needs, the technical side for post editing our images not only provides two classrooms fitted with computers and relevant software but, Also provides two sound proof post editing suites for regular post editing as well as videography Post editing. We have an equipment room where we can book items out to help us with our practical work, this is always available to us with informed staff to guide us. Our darkroom is perfectly formed and again very flexible on access as we often use this facility out of set hours, we are encouraged to use all facilities for personal projects along side our curriculum commitments. We are fully supported with pastoral, student union and other services within our building.
I could not have had better support, I have had two contrasting academic years, my first year was a fantastic time I did lots of extra things and enjoyed every minute. This year ( my second year) I have unfortunately experienced two Close family losses within months of each other. My main tutor has been a huge support, i have been given time to grieve whilst still encouraged to keep in touch, this was my lifeline and as contributed to me completing this year. I have also been offered counselling if needed. I always find the tutor feedback constructive and consistent. There is always opportunity to discuss any feedback, so there is no misunderstanding.
So far i have had an great experience. I have received more than enough support and i'm glad i made the choice and chose Blackburn university centre to study my degree. I have gone from having zero confidence in myself to being so proud of what i have achieved in such a sort time with the support of peers and the university.
They help you develop an online portfolio that employer can view to see your potential. They have open group to attend on jobs that become available for you. set you on work placements so a potential job opportunity could come from this during or ending your course.
The course is made fun by tutors activities within class that make you learn easily and everyone can get involved. i like that we have peer review to make sure your on the right track. There are no bad point for myself.
Blackburn college and university both have fabulous facilities. they are all very easy to access. The food facilities have a massive variety of choice and this is reasonably prices. If you are have difficulties learning they have an easy access point for someone to speak to and to gain further support. There is always someone to talk to for support this could be home life or study life.
The academic support is fantastic, My first year of study i was nervous thinking i could not finish the year, without the support from my tutors i might have finished the course. The tutors have always been available to speak to and reply via email very quickly. During a pandemic the contact was there near 24/7. Personal support is also superbe, struggling with dyslexia the support i received and was able to feel comfortable contacting and speaking to someone about my feeling was great. If you have a family matter that is cousing a great deal of stress and feel you have no one to talk to there is an onsite councillor you can call and speak to or face to face meeting. A ll round great team. jhgkhdhc
I’ve been there nearly 3 years now and it’s been such an amazing experience. I would recommend anyone to join Blackburn university because the tutors are so supportive and help throughout anything. Always make you work to the best of your ability while encouraging you to do your best in every aspect
Blackburn college is very accommodating when your studying and working at the same time. They try to get careers advisors in which are relevant to the topic you are studying in which is beneficial to know what grades you need. While they get careers advisors they also get people who working in the industry your studying to give more of a prospect of what it’s like in everyday life.
My course was taught very well to us , they always offered support and recap where we needed it. If we needed a little more explanation they would offer it. Or try change it to a way we would understand. I always felt comfortable to ask question and speak about the subject and found I got a very good understanding of it all the best I could for my assignments
College facilities are accessible for all individuals with different needs. There’s wide range of facilities that can be accessed to help with research and education such as library facilities.
Amazing I have been going through a lot with my personal health and my tutors have always had an understanding of this and supported me throughout all of it, offered support where they can. Absolutely amazing support
Blackburn college is a fantastic opportunity to further your career prospects, meet new people and enjoy learning. I have no regrets whatsoever and as a mature student it has given me valuable knowledge in IT skills I thought I could never have.
There are good opportunities with workshops, outside agencies and work placements
It is incredibly versatile for single working mums like myself as it provides excellent prospects of furthering my career whilst still being able to work part-time and look after my family. The lecturers are incredibly dedicated and supportive and really go the extra mile in encouraging and mentoring students to achieve good grades. I have enjoyed every bit of the course and my only regret is that it has passed too quickly
Clean, welcoming with adequate facilities and a great library
The academic tutors have always been available to talk to and have been empathetic and encouraging.
I have really enjoyed attending the university, i have found the course is very interesting and informative. The staff are very helpful and support the students to achieve there full potential
yes there all different people which are available to point you in the right direction
The course is good as it alows to gain a qualification and also work along side it
The college has any learning resources, they are all easily accessible with lots of help available.
there is a variety of different supports available around university which are well advertised and easily accessible
I have thoroughly enjoyed studying Disability studies at foundation level and now BA. There is plenty of support available, a wide range of books, journals and articles available in the library and online for students to access. Tutors for the course are amazing in the way they deliver the information and support students.
By steering your learning to the area of disability you are most interested in and supporting you in research
The tutors are always available to answer questions and offer support when ever needed. The lessons are presented in a way that are easy to follow and understand by PowerPoint. You can follow along on your own laptop or on the big screen. Discussions are always welcomed and all input is valued.
Excellent, during the pandemic tutors were available when ever needed to offer support. The student engagement team are available to help students make the correct decision for them.
My overall college experience has been quite enjoyable. This is because, the staff are friendly, proffessional and understanding to any needs that you may have. The facilities within the college campus are good as you can use all of the buildings facilities and not just the universities.
Within the college campus, there is a careers department who are very willing to help you in the deciding of what course is right for you and to help find the area of work that is best suited to you and your qualifications. On this course there is a module called academic development which helps you progress on to job interviews, help with cv writings and cover letters that you may need. There is also the opportunity to under take a work place on the second year of the LLB to help you gain the necessary work experience that you need and for you to get the idea if you would like to work in that field.
The tutors are very friendly and helpful towards all students. They help with any questions that you may have regarding work and they take the time to thoroughly go through any work that is being given to you to make sure that you understand what is being asked of you.
The facilities at blackburn college are overall quite good. There is ample rooms for you to do individual or group studying as they have a conference room that can be booked to do group work. They also have a quiet study area upstairs in the library and a silent study room as well. However the computers in the library are quite old which makes them run slower than you would like and some of the books in the library could do with being updated to newer versions or add more than one copy of a book.
The support that is given to you from tutors is very good. They always take the time to make sure that you understand what you need to do and if you dont they are always there to answer any questions that you may have. There is also the support from the students union that is located in the curve in the cafe area. Also within the college campus there is many health and wellbeing counsellors that are there to support you for any mental health issues that you may be having.
Absolutely fantastic place to study. Lovely friendly staff that are always on hand to help if you have any problems. Staff are more than qualified to teach lessons. Staff are great if you need any one to one help. I feel safe whilst I’m studying both in and around campus overall would highly recommend to any student thinking about attending the University Center at Blackburn College. I have nearly finished my degree in Law and I’m hoping to go on to study a Masters In Law here as well.
Work placement is available and we are encouraged by staff to try find work placement whilst we are on breaks ie: Easter and summer holidays. Staff provide us with details of any job opportunities that they feel would suit
I like that staff are always there to help if you have any questions or if you are finding that your struggling with anything.
I find that the facilities at the university Center is good. I would suggest a few more computers in the library and maybe a few more up to date books
They have a wide range of help available from people to help with mental health to people I help you write and construct assignments. Tutor feedback I find is very helpful as they show me where I went wrong and how I can improve it next time
I have had brilliant time, meeting new friends throughout my time here and and growing as a person both academically and in my personal life. I have also gained qualifications and my prospects for the future are looking good.
The Foundation degree runs for two years and requires students to undertake a work placement with 120 per academic year. These placements can be either internal (at the university centre) or external on a placement of your choosing that allows students to work in the discipline they are studying. There is also a careers fairs where external employers visit the university centre and the modules teach you transferable skills that can be used in the work place.
The lecturers are approachable and are always willing to help or listen. The tutors and support staff work well together and strive to get the best for their students.
The facilities for computing students are great, good equipment and a cluster laboratory with state of the art servers that students can utilise for their projects and modules being studied.
The feedback on my course has been brilliant from the module tutors and when I have had to use the support staff in the student engagement they have always helped me or pointed me in the direction of other support staff who may be able to help.
