Art and Design with Creative Technologies - BA (Hons)

University rating (4)

I study at the art building, Margaret street I think the building is great and staff are lovely always at hand. However I think at Margaret street we don’t get as involved within the main campus maybe if this could be implemented more it would make art students comfortable to go to main campus and check out the facilities.

Best thing about BCU is that they helped me with my cv which allowed me to get good interviews. The worst thing is the food options in the capus shop.

Health - PhD

University rating (5)

I am currently undertaking my PhD part-time while also working full-time at the institution, which has been a unique and rewarding experience. One of the highlights for me has been the financial support provided by my department, as they have generously funded my course. This has significantly reduced the pressure of balancing work and study, allowing me to focus on my research. While I am generally satisfied with the support from my supervisors, there are times when I feel they are not entirely confident in navigating certain institutional policies and procedures. In such cases, I often find myself independently searching for information or clarifying rules. This has been a bit challenging, but it has also pushed me to develop a greater sense of self-reliance and resourcefulness in managing my studies. That being said, Birmingham City University (BCU) is an excellent place to pursue higher education. The facilities available to students are top-notch, offering everything from state-of-the-art research labs to comprehensive library resources. Additionally, the university provides numerous opportunities for students to present and showcase their research work, which is incredibly valuable for both personal and professional development. I would absolutely recommend BCU to anyone considering further education. The combination of a supportive learning environment, opportunities for growth, and high-quality resources makes it a great choice for students at all levels.

Art and Design with Creative Technologies - BA (Hons)

University rating (4)

The best part is that the university takes students seriously make makes sure we know what rights we have when thinking about work. One downside that could be improved is the amount of things available in the school of art. It sort of feels disconnected from the rest of the school and we don’t get that benefits of student life.

Criminology, Policing and Investigation - BA (Hons)

University rating (5)

The campus is very well constructed and clean with modern architecture, it feels safe with having security around the area and on the barriers. The location is also good due to it only being a 15min walk from city centre so easy for students who are travelling into university.

Professional Doctorate in Education - EdD

University rating (4)

Disability support is amazing. Helpful and does not make you feel bad in any way. Good supervisor team who are very supportive. The course I am currently on means I have to be teaching in some capacity or working in education. The course is more suited to those working at university or in a situation where they have more flexibility. I have been unable to access many of the seminars/events/socials etc due to work. I work in secondary and feel the course could do more for those like me who cannot have much time off to attend such events during the working day. The way the university collects and sends out demands for student fees is appalling. Especially for those with mental health issues, they are not supportive nor do they listen to what you say they just repeatedly demand money even if you have already paid/set up a payment plan. I have had issues every year for one reason or another, this year they changed the set up so it delayed me getting student finance for a month, I got an apology then a demand to pay what I owed with the same breath.

The best thing is that everyone is always very keen to help you and you never feel left alone. The worst thing is probably the distance from town.
