Early Childhood Studies with Graduate Practitioner Competencies BA (Hons)

- student union should be advertised more, as I haven’t heard much about it - student life could be a bit better if there was more social activities - advertisement of social activities should be done more - the best thing about university is that there is lots of help over career choices, meetings, discussions and future always is spoken about, the curriculum is always set and worked well with, students get loads of support through mental health which is really good, support across all sorts of things is looked at which is great

Midwifery (September) BSc (Hons)

University rating (4)

The university itself is state of the art, modern, clean and has fantastic facilities for my course (I am unable to comment on others) and have never felt like I couldn't practise skills, get a book I needed, or access any resources needed to support my degree. I feel student support could be better accessible, for example there is very few appointments allocated with tutors for tutorial support for assignments, plus using services such as ADD they are also very limited with the help they an provide for us, especially when it comes to the content of our assignments as they aren't practising midwives. Additionally ADD have limited appointments so its a fight to get an appointment. I also feel that it seems an unfair concept that students can only have 1 tutorial with tutors especially when we strive to produce the best possible work and may need extra support, and this is only provided for people that have diagnosed or confirmed learning difficulties or support statements. The campus itself is well laid out, however Harborne Road is not a good place for all day lectures. The chairs are uncomfortable, and the small desks attached to the chairs are impossible to work on, especially as someone who likes to use a laptop, and make written notes. The desks are not fit for purpose as a university student and we spend more picking up our stuff off the floor that has fallen on the floor from the desk collapsing. Most students have stated how they hate having lectures in Harborne for this reason and much prefer to be in Seacole where we have chairs and proper desks. However Seacole building comes with its own faults, the main with having NO plug sockets. 99.9% of students use some sort of electronic device to make notes from lectures and it means that for some they cannot do this as their device may not stay charged throughout the day. Student life and the union are very interactive and have fantastic communication with us with any events, unions to join, and sending us regular coms through email. Lastly, I'd like to comment on the location. Even though this is beneficial to be so close to the city centre and a range of different transport options, it also means its exceptionally busy, full of traffic and takes a long time to get to. There is also limited availability of parking, at a cost, which seems unfair and would be good for future consideration for a student car park.

Adult Nursing (January) BSc (Hons)

University rating (5)

I have not yet experienced a bad part of the university. I joined the university in March 2024 after studying at a previous institution. I have enjoyed this university's support, and I highly recommend it to fellow people looking to study. I enjoy being part of a community and the way the university brings people from all different backgrounds together; I feel this is beneficial as you learn about other people's experiences. The university offers great diversity and acknowledges that people have different ways of learning.

Jewellery and Silversmithing HND

University rating (4)

BCU School of Jewellery is a great place to learn the trade. All the staff are friendly and helpful. As a mature student i did find i a great place to meet all ages and people from all over the world. The only thng that lets the campus down is the lack of lunch facilities and the building could do with updating to add some modern touches to this historical building. Overall im proud to be a student at BCU.

Although the uniform is unisex, it doesn’t fit well on females. The top is very long and the trousers are very tight around the hips.
