Sports Studies postgraduate degrees in South West England

The campus is absolutely gorgeous! A wonderful mix of old and new, castles and modern buildings. Reserving rooms encourages students to get out of their rooms and study anywhere on campus, from the top of the castle tower, to the communal "pods" at Commons. The Student Union building has a bar and a small shop, and activities going on almost every day. Karaoke every other Saturday is one of my favourites. Close enough to the city of Bath for easy access, while still having the feeling of a university town. Lots of student discounts and student bars/clubs in town, as the University of Bath is also nearby. Interesting classes, lovely lecturers and guest lecturers, and proper assessments. Few, if not none, tests, allowing for those who do not thrive with simple memorization to show off how they learn. The diversity of students encourages the broadening of your own world view. A wide range of courses, allowing for study into incredibly specific topics. The main issue with the university is the wait time for wellbeing appointments, as it can take up to four months to even get a foot in the door. This means that if you do need help, it is very difficult to achieve. Also, while it isn't the university's fault, it is important to know that the First Bus system is not very reliable, so if you have a job in town, it is quite nerve-wracking.

For instance, the Oxstalls campus houses the Business School and Growth Hub, featuring a live trading room, innovative teaching spaces, and a moot court room. Additionally, the campus offers an international-standard sports arena, 3G pitches, and a cricket pavilion and pitch. The University of Gloucestershire fosters a diverse student community where individuals from various backgrounds learn together while embracing university life. The Chapel at Francis Close Hall offers a tranquil space for reflection, providing mental and emotional support for students seeking peace amidst their academic journey. This inclusive environment enhances student well-being, encouraging a sense of belonging and personal growth. A potential area for improvement would be the provision of short-term university accommodation for students in need, particularly at the postgraduate level. Given the unique challenges faced by these students—such as research commitments, placements, or unforeseen personal circumstances—offering flexible housing options would greatly enhance their academic experience and overall well-being. This initiative would reflect the university's commitment to student support, ensuring that all scholars have access to a stable and conducive living environment during critical phases of their studies.

Lovely countryside quiet environment. Each subject has its own part on campus which makes it easy to find. Bus fares could be improved as I am a university student living at home and it costs me £30 a week to commute as I also need to catch a public bus.

Since joining this year for my masters on what is the first year that the course has been run, lecturers have been great, content has been great and the communication between students and the university regarding covid and the constantly changing situation that we have found ourselves in has been excellent. Whilst it has not been possible to meet many students at the Uni socially there have been many social events run over zoom to get involved with and I feel they have made the best of an unprecedented situation.

The best aspect of the university is its inclusiveness and overall collectiveness and community you get when you’re a part of the university and even after you have left I have seen previous alumni and staff being an active part of the community works present over here and participate in their respective events.

Plymouth Marjon University is very good for student support. The lectures all make an effort to get to know their students and offer support where they can. There is not much within walking distance of the university however the SU is a great place to sit drink and hangout with friends.
