Psychology postgraduate degrees

What makes my uni a great place to study is their student support. They try to help their students in any way possible to ensure that students get the best out of their education. I think it would be better if the university put more effort into societies and clubs such as sporting clubs and teams . It would help the university to have more of a community and really showcase other talents other than what students already study on their courses. My university do have societies and some sporting teams, however some of the societies don’t run anymore and it’s not made to be as big as it was when I first heard about it before I joined uni. I think it’s important to have that feel of community and university culture and to also show the inclusiveness of different cultures, groups and activities in which people associate them selves with.

The best aspect of my university experience is the diversity of perspectives and opportunities to engage with topics I’m deeply passionate about, like Early Childhood Studies. As a young Black woman, I’ve found that exploring inclusive practices in education allows me to connect my academic journey with my personal experiences. The faculty is supportive, and the resources available—like library access and workshops—help me refine my skills and ideas, especially for creative projects like my puppet show for literacy development. However, one challenge I’ve faced is the lack of representation and tailored support for students from diverse backgrounds. While the university is inclusive in theory, more could be done to actively celebrate and support cultural diversity, particularly for Black women. Additionally, I think practical experiences could be integrated more into the curriculum to prepare us for the workplace. It’s a great place to study because of the encouragement to pursue innovative ideas, but improvement lies in ensuring all students feel equally seen and supported.

Best: how close the class gets due to the smaller size, funding opportunities, library. Worst: facilities for the science department isn’t as good as other subjects like film studies, choice of other units is restricted, issue of having to choose a lecturer that’s a nice marker more than a lecturer that specialises in a topic your interested in due to differences in lectures marking for dissertations, careers services are not helpful even though we have to have work experience to graduate with honours the careers services just aren't helpful.

My experience as a student at the University of Roehampton has been really enlightening. The campus, which is tucked away in a beautiful area of London, offers the ideal balance of contemporary amenities and green areas to make learning a genuinely pleasurable experience. I've found the university's dedication to providing customised help to be one of the most notable aspects. I saw right once that there was a sincere commitment to the welfare of the students, and that help was readily available whenever required. There's a strong sense of community here, and the various clubs and organisations on campus add to the lively school atmosphere.

A very chill campus, when you want to take a break from studying you can take a walk in the nature - go to the loch and look at the ducks/swans, breath clear air. Overall the university look and feel is pretty modern inside and has great facilities. It really gives you the opportunity to make most of uni. Also some lecturers make it absolutely amazing place. Overall students in my course are all really friendly and hardworking which creates a great helpful atmosphere where you can be yourself and study something you are passionate about with other people who are also passionate. Only problem I could think of is some shortcuts which are always muddy and make us avoid them, and need some stones added to, and some more car parking spaces closer to the uni. But that is subjective.

The library is brilliant, open 24/7 and the staff are really helpful. My course and the staff on my course were excellent and always willing to meet or discuss anything at all, nothing was too much trouble. The facilities are great and they’re always improving them too, and the campus has lots of green space and spots to sit outside too.

If a student is experiencing really hard life situations, they are supportive, they listen, they provide options so the students continue their degrees and achieve their goals. As for what could be improve, I would say the timetables, could be more flexibles, allowing students to kind of choose their timetables rather than mandatory. However, I say this for the BSc Com puter Science programme, I am not sure about the others.

DMU is a diverse, inclusive, welcoming university. I live an hour away and am a mature student, so I can't comment on the 'typical' student life, but as a single mum and a neurodivergent person I can honestly say that there is a lot of support available and I think I will thrive across my 3 years there.

Additionally, some campus facilities, especially the older buildings, needed upgrades, and study spaces were often overcrowded during exam periods. Suggestions for Improvement: 1. Streamline administrative services to improve efficiency. 2. Upgrade older facilities and expand study spaces. 3. Improve communication around student events and activities.
