What students say about film-and-television-production

The lectures in my course are very helpful and always get back to you when you have questions. We have good weeks timetabling where we have online lessons and in person and we start at a nice time as well which gives people time to travel. Our lectures give us PowerPoints which we can also look at when at home for more revision. The university is big and is a couple bus stops from train stations which is helpful as well. There is lots of places to get food and they have a wide variety of things.

What students say about film-and-television-production

I was in the Bedford campus and the student life was limited. This was because many people travelled into uni from their homes. The student union was great at providing activities in the afternoons/ evenings. They also support students. all you have to do is email them or go to social events.

I think the best one is about how you learn more about the industry work, can easily get access to things and meet new friends that you might keep for life. Worst is when I start not going to lectures , the units become more complicating.

What students say about film-and-television-production

Students receive a lot of support from the lecturers and other faculty members. Additionally there are different departments specialising in offering students support and guidance. There are many events organised to help students socialise and relax or be part of the activities that boost their CV and skills. If I had the chance to start my programme again, I will definitely do it as I feel sad it’s nearly the end of my uni life and I will be missing it a lot.

What students say about film-and-television-production

Obviously studying during the pandemic has been a challenge. The school does have a major issue with organisation and communication. However, I’ve met some great people through this course and had a lot of fun. We got to experience filmmaking modules as well as the acting modules which was a great opportunity.

What students say about film-and-television-production

One of the best things about University of the West of England is how focused it is on getting you ready for an actual job. A lot of courses include placements or practical projects, so it doesn’t feel like you’re just learning theory for the sake of it. The campus (especially Frenchay) is really nice as well — modern buildings, loads of study spaces, and decent facilities. It’s pretty easy to find somewhere to work or just chill between lectures. Also, being in Bristol is a big win. There’s always something going on, whether it’s nightlife, food, or events, and it’s a good city for part-time jobs too. However, it’s not perfect. Organisation can be a bit all over the place sometimes — like timetable changes last minute or slow feedback on assignments, which gets frustrating. It can also depend a lot on your course or lecturers. Some modules are really good, others not so much, so it feels a bit inconsistent. And yeah, Bristol is expensive. Rent and general living costs can add up pretty quickly, which is something to be aware of.

What students say about film-and-television-production

I think the best part of my university experience has been the amount of opportunities I've had in terms of my learning and outside student life. My teachers have also been absolutely amazing and so helpful. I feel like we are given excellent direction on assignments and we aren't just left to do it on our own and figure it out ourselves. However, I think the university could be improved in terms of support for GIP students. As a GIP student, I feel like I do not have great access to my own attendance and on multiple occasions it has been a struggle to get authorised absences for myself. I feel like the system for reporting absences needs to be simpler and it makes me anxious knowing some of my absences are red when they shouldn't be as my medical condition has made it impossible to get into class that day. I had one meeting with a lady before I started the university where we went over things like absences and then I never heard from her again? She said she would sort out implications for me so it would be easier to get time off and not be penalised for it but I never heard from her again.

What students say about film-and-television-production

The campus is absolutely gorgeous! A wonderful mix of old and new, castles and modern buildings. Reserving rooms encourages students to get out of their rooms and study anywhere on campus, from the top of the castle tower, to the communal "pods" at Commons. The Student Union building has a bar and a small shop, and activities going on almost every day. Karaoke every other Saturday is one of my favourites. Close enough to the city of Bath for easy access, while still having the feeling of a university town. Lots of student discounts and student bars/clubs in town, as the University of Bath is also nearby. Interesting classes, lovely lecturers and guest lecturers, and proper assessments. Few, if not none, tests, allowing for those who do not thrive with simple memorization to show off how they learn. The diversity of students encourages the broadening of your own world view. A wide range of courses, allowing for study into incredibly specific topics. The main issue with the university is the wait time for wellbeing appointments, as it can take up to four months to even get a foot in the door. This means that if you do need help, it is very difficult to achieve. Also, while it isn't the university's fault, it is important to know that the First Bus system is not very reliable, so if you have a job in town, it is quite nerve-wracking.

What students say about film-and-television-production

What makes my uni a great place to study is their student support. They try to help their students in any way possible to ensure that students get the best out of their education. I think it would be better if the university put more effort into societies and clubs such as sporting clubs and teams . It would help the university to have more of a community and really showcase other talents other than what students already study on their courses. My university do have societies and some sporting teams, however some of the societies don’t run anymore and it’s not made to be as big as it was when I first heard about it before I joined uni. I think it’s important to have that feel of community and university culture and to also show the inclusiveness of different cultures, groups and activities in which people associate them selves with.

What students say about film-and-television-production

I find the location, community and campus feel very peaceful and relaxing, and the education provided is good quality and varied. There could be more support for students who struggle to fit in with the student body, e.g., more help and encouragement to join societies or opportunities to socialise with peers.
