Counselling postgraduate degrees in Northern England

I think the support is great. The course is good however I personally do not enjoy the lectures in third year. I feel the atmosphere is great and the library is a lovely place to study. My only complaint is that parking is quite limited as you have to arrive 1-2hours before just make sure you have time to find a space.

University of Salford is a great place to study because it offers strong industry connections, modern facilities, and practical learning opportunities that prepare students for real careers. The university also emphasizes employability through placements, industry-led projects, and partnerships with businesses. However, it could be improved by expanding student support services, increasing study and social spaces during busy periods, and providing more affordable accommodation options to better support students’ wellbeing and academic success.

I can honestly say apart from having to my lifestyle to incorporate study in amongst work and family life i have had no negative experiences. The support from the tutors on this course has been above and beyond and the resources they provided for optimal learning have been amazing. If extra support is needed they are only just an email or a teams meeting away and if they cant help you will be sign posted in the right direction. I feel for not considering myself to be an academic person i have excelled in this course but this was only due to the support provided.

Best aspects: One of the best things about my experience at York St John has been the strong sense of community. The campus is a really welcoming environment, and because it’s a smaller university, it’s easy to build meaningful relationships with both lecturers and other students. My course has felt very supportive, with lecturers who are approachable and genuinely invested in student success. The location is also a huge positive — being so close to York city centre makes student life enjoyable while still having a calm, close-knit campus atmosphere that’s great for studying. Worst aspects / improvements: While the supportive environment is a real strength, one area that could be improved is communication around timetabling and assessment deadlines, which can sometimes feel a bit last-minute. Additionally, expanding study spaces during peak assessment periods would be helpful, as the library can get very busy. That said, the university is clearly responsive to student feedback, and I’ve seen positive changes being made over time.
