Civil Engineering postgraduate degrees in South East England

I love studying at southampton because we each have a personal academic tutor (PAT) and mine is really helpful. I also love the draft system we have for marked essays, which give us a mark prediction for final submission as well as a lot of useful feedback for editing. I also enjoy the range of sports and societies I can join, I have tried so many new things and it's so much cheaper than trying it outside of university so I highly recommend trying some out. The campus is beautiful in the spring and summer, so many trees and flowers, lots of benches to sit out in the sun. The library is nice and big with hot water and microwaves for your pot noodles and ready meals. However, it would be nice if it was cooler inside when the weather is hotter as it can feel a bit sweaty inside. There are so many fun philosophy modules and you can choose to take a module from an external subject each semester which is a great opportunity. The student union hold events throughout the year to make friends and meet new people so if you keep putting yourself out there, you are guaranteed to meet some nice people.

The lectures in my course are very helpful and always get back to you when you have questions. We have good weeks timetabling where we have online lessons and in person and we start at a nice time as well which gives people time to travel. Our lectures give us PowerPoints which we can also look at when at home for more revision. The university is big and is a couple bus stops from train stations which is helpful as well. There is lots of places to get food and they have a wide variety of things.

It offers a full range of courses relating to Science. And in the course that I am currently doing, the modules have been changed to be more reflective of what employers want when you graduate, as well as it being reflective of core skills needed for almost every aspect of Biology and Chemistry.

Best thing is the fantastic 24/7 library that's not just resourceful but also incredibly welcoming with even overnight snacks there for those who spend their time at the library at night! I wish the university had more student accommodation on offer for the international students.

I'm an optometry student entering my third year in September 2024. The lecturers are very nice and supportive; however, the optometry students in Group C are extremely rude, disrespectful, and lack any sort of manners. Many of them speak poorly of you if you fall behind or are slow in your routine, and they refuse to collaborate despite knowing that practice is essential for skill improvement.

I love the scenery which is just by the River Thames. The accommodation is comfortable and peaceful. Worst experience is that students are made to search Placement opportunities themselves which can be quite exhausting.

My experience at London South Bank University has been overwhelmingly positive, and I truly believe it is a great place to study and grow as a student. Lecturers and academic advisors are always willing to help, whether it’s explaining difficult coursework, giving career advice, or providing guidance during assignments. Their friendly attitude creates a learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and developing confidence in their studies. The university provides modern labs, well-equipped classrooms, and industry-standard facilities that help students gain real-world experience. For many courses, practical sessions, workshops, and hands-on projects make learning more engaging and directly relevant to future careers. This practical approach is one of the main reasons LSBU graduates are well-prepared for the workforce. The location is also a huge advantage. Being in Central London means students have easy access to internships, part-time jobs, networking events, and professional opportunities. Public transport links around the campus are excellent, which makes commuting simple and convenient. Additionally, studying in such a vibrant, diverse city exposes you to many cultures and experiences that broaden your perspective and personal growth. LSBU is also known for its diversity. Students come from many different backgrounds and countries, creating an inclusive and welcoming environment. Interacting with a wide range of people enriches both academic and social life, and helps build strong communication skills and global awareness. The Students’ Union plays an important role in making campus life enjoyable. They organise events, clubs, and societies that help students socialise, develop hobbies, and take breaks from academic pressure. From cultural celebrations to academic workshops and sports activities, the SU offers something for everyone. It also supports student welfare and actively listens to student concerns. While my experience has been largely positive, there are a few areas that could be improved to make the university experience even better. Administrative processes, such as timetabling or enrollment updates, can sometimes be slow or unclear. Improved communication and faster responses would make things easier for students, especially during busy periods like the start of term. Additionally, although the accommodations are comfortable and close to campus, they can be quite expensive because of the London location. More affordable housing options would be very helpful for students on a tight budget. Lastly, while LSBU already hosts a number of events, increasing the number of career-oriented workshops, industry meetups, and networking sessions would make a big difference. These events help students make valuable connections and understand the professional world more deeply. Overall, London South Bank University offers a strong combination of academic support, practical teaching, modern facilities, and an excellent central London location. The friendly atmosphere, diversity, and active student life create a positive and motivating environment for learning. With a few improvements in communication and affordability, the university could provide an even better experience. Despite those small areas for development, LSBU remains a great place to study, grow, and prepare for future opportunities

What makes my uni a great place to study is their student support. They try to help their students in any way possible to ensure that students get the best out of their education. I think it would be better if the university put more effort into societies and clubs such as sporting clubs and teams . It would help the university to have more of a community and really showcase other talents other than what students already study on their courses. My university do have societies and some sporting teams, however some of the societies don’t run anymore and it’s not made to be as big as it was when I first heard about it before I joined uni. I think it’s important to have that feel of community and university culture and to also show the inclusiveness of different cultures, groups and activities in which people associate them selves with.

The best aspects of my university experience have been the sense of community and the opportunities for personal and academic growth. My course is taught by passionate lecturers who make the subject feel relevant and engaging, and I’ve appreciated how approachable most staff are when I need help. There are also plenty of extracurricular activities and societies, which made it easy to meet people with similar interests. The campus facilities—like the library, study spaces, and wellbeing services—have also been a big part of what makes it a great place to study. In terms of what could be improved, there are a few key areas. Communication between departments could sometimes be clearer, especially around deadlines and timetable changes. At busy times of the year, access to study spaces can become limited, and more quiet areas or longer opening hours would make a difference. It would also help if there were more practical, hands-on learning opportunities such as placements, workshops, or industry links, as these really enhance understanding and employability. Overall, the university offers a supportive and stimulating environment, but with better organisation and more resources during peak periods, the student experience could be even stronger.
