People here are so friendly. I was a bit nervous at first, as I am experiencing new cultures and meeting people from everywhere around the world. You definitely learn both how to find things in common and things you can learn from each other.

The facilities at Durham University are one of a kind in comparison to many other UK universities. The student community is expansive and supportive, though at times can feel isolating and unfriendly. One of the top things at Durham University is definitely student life, where there are many social and academic engagements throughout the year. One of the worst is the Student Union, which, if you don’t pay enough attention, you could confuse as not doing anything at all. After all, it is rated the worst student union in the country.

The blended learning is great with a range of online and in-person sessions, helping students learn in a way that best suits them. The course content is not what many expect from a Psychology course, so always think twice about the content of the course at the University you choose. Contact with lecturers and tutors can sometimes feel strained and weak, and there aren’t many contact hours- in fact- only 3 per fortnight, if you count all the hours that are supposed to be ‘contact hours’. This needs improvement as most students work better with more contact hours than less.

Living in college is the highlight of any Durham University experience. The opportunity to make friends and experience the most of your first year of University is a benefit. Most colleges are at a prime place near the campus of the University or around the city centre and are safe and managed well. Trevelyan college has many facilities such as the gym, a prayer room, playing courts, a lively bar etc., making it one of the best colleges to live at during your first year.
