Love the student life, and SU, many events and shows are organised and well executed by the SU, many shops, restaurants, bars and even prayer rooms available. Campus isn’t really inviting, rather dreadful to be honest even though some facilities like the Sports facility, SU NightClub, Lecture halls computer labs and Library are incredible the University also truly excels with student and staff wellbeing facilities and also open and private study spaces. Campus security and cleanliness is also top notch. Classes are decent, not very interesting or captivating though, and you will most likely spend your entire First Year trying to navigate the maze that is Colchester Campus. Finally, for paying as much the students do, we should be allowed to decide whether or not we want to truly take advantage of the opportunity, if one is already knowledgeable in a domain and still wishes to study it no matter which level they choose to study, they should be able to do so and not be rejected on the basis that they’re “too knowledgeable”.

Lots of courses are somewhat misleading, or at least much broader and therefore less interesting than the title would suggest, once again too much emphasis on group work. Very very demanding on international students who may have not gone to college first and are overwhelmed with workload, attendance expectations, and requirements. Lecturers are very kind and understanding though, often times they’re the only reason one may come to classes. Department of Language and Linguistics is very difficult aswell, from numerous classes a week to loads of homework and tests. Sure university is not a daycare but even rigour and hard work should be to an extent.

In other words, there is always someone who you can go to. Last but not least, the University of Essex has a beautiful campus, where you can both study and relax.

The best part of the course is that we, students, get to go on a year abroad and get our masters degree all within four years. This course is also very flexible and it allows you to study different modern languages and translation which not many courses offer. The "worst" aspect of the course is the workload that there is on your year abroad. It is difficult to take 60 ECTS credits per year in modules and on top of that write a dissertation. It is not unmanageable but it is still very demanding which does not leave you with much time to enjoy the student life. However, the positive aspects of this course outweigh the less exciting part of it for sure.

Living on campus is simply the best. Everything is super close and making friends is easier than ever since you are surrounded by your peers. For South Courts, you get to meet new people, your flatmates, while it not being overwhelming as it is usually only around four people sharing the flat. Keeping everything clean and sticking to a roommate agreement is therefore so much easier than when you share a flat with a lot of people. You also get quite a spacious room with your own bathroom, which is the best.
