More aesthetic study spaces with natural light, but the facilities and student support offered is great!

Good but not aesthetic

A very community feel campus. You will walk past at least 1 familiar face. There are many systems in place to support and encourage students to make new friends such as: Freshers Fair: Stalls of societies, activities, events and freebies! A way to meet new people. Starting Block – the first module taken each year, designed to help students develop the necessary skills to transition into university life Personal academic tutors – these are staff on the degree assigned to students to offer support on course-specific issues Peer-Assisted Learning (PAL) – this scheme links students with other experienced students on the same course as them who are able to offer guidance and advice based on their own experience the year before! Relevant information and informal unlike a 1:1 with a lecturer Student Wellbeing Service – offering 24/7 support for personal and mental health, with free counselling available. The Living Well Programme: Anyone who accesses wellbeing support is able to apply to the programme, it’s a way of making friends through craft club, coffee mornings and many more fun things! Also ideal if you don’t always want to be drinking as it can get quite boring. I can also vouch for the other facilities on campus, with living on campus in my foundation year last year. I didn’t feel I got on with my flatmates as they all partied everynight (all personal preference) and after speaking to accommodation they were able to move me to a studio, which suited my need for a quieter environment. Security are amazing, they are all first aid trained and helped when my boyfriend suffered from ill health. They make me feel very safe within the uni, they will also politely diffuse any noisy parties (which is a true blessing once assignment season comes around). The teaching staff at UWE remain professional whilst also just being really approachable, they come from the field of work you’re actually interested in and are passionate about what they are teaching you. They give you real scenarios to use your skills within your chosen field, for example one of my lecturers booked for 20 of us Criminology students to access the Forensic Investigation Lab and we will be analyzing a mock crime scene. We are a very strong university with a community feel and togetherness! Overall, if you have any problems throughout your studies at UWE, please just contact the relevant staff, security, accommodation etc! They will sort it!

Best things about my course is the flexibility if I cannot attend a specific class, I am able to attend the same class at a different time on a different day. Nothing is a silly question, the lecturers will happily repeat themselves and break the work down so we understand it. If you are struggling, ask for help!!! They are not mind readers, however they do want to help you graduate, so take the help!!

Wallscourt is very modern, just be careful you don’t get a room above the entrance of the building otherwise it can be a little bit noisy… Student Village is very homely, only downside for me was the wet room style bathroom, however you’ll soon learn that when you’re applying for competitive accomodation, a room is better than no room, evilly one on campus for first year!!! Personally if I had the choice again to live on campus I would choose Student Village, the room was a lot bigger than my Wallscourt Room and was so homely and not cramped.
