York uni has a beautiful campus and supportive teaching staff. The collegiate system works really well and there are lots of college and society activities for those who don’t drink as well as those who do. However, the bus between campuses is no longer free and the replacement is less frequent and less reliable. The student support team can take weeks to get back to you.

The course is a bit repetitive and all of the modules are quite similar. However, in second year you can choose modules so hopefully there will be greater variety of modules then. The teaching staff are really supportive and helpful. The contact hours are quite low but this can be either a positive or negative depending on personal preference.

The halls (david kato) are very modern and many have views overlooking the lakes. The college is gated so it feels very safe and secure. The kitchen is also very big and modern and easy to use. The only negative to campus east accommodation is having to commute to west every day, but this is worth it in my opinion. However, as the bus stop nearest david kato is closed and the next closest is a 10 minute walk away, it is almost quicker to just walk. Also, it is too far from any supermarkets to shop in-store so i always order asda delivery.

Best aspects - student life and union, it is a gorgeous campus! Worst aspects - university didn't handle covid very well, especially for interactive courses (such as mine that typically have field trips); student housing is very limited both on and off campus

Best aspects - Human geography is very interdisciplinary so there's always some aspect of every class that is enjoyable Worst aspects - because it is so broad, some courses don't feel like they necessarily fit into geography. Additionally, a BSc in human geography would be a nice option to further balance human & physical geography - so far, third year feels a bit too conceptual than previous years in terms of what we are learning about the environment and development and most coursemates I know are not happy with this

Most - very good value for money, rooms were very very nice, almost always felt safe coming back to Halifax on nights out or in the dark Cons - lacking community compared to other colleges like Derwent college, location can be a bit inconvenient
