I am glad I chose Cardiff University as Cardiff is such a fun place to live, there is so much to do and the Uni is in a great location. Apart from the location, the reason I chose to study here is because I liked the sense of community, especially within the MLANG department, when I came for various open days. Since I started university, my experience within the school of MLANG has been amazing: staff are so supportive and the department as a whole is inclusive and fun to be part of. Therefore I find it heart-breaking that the university is planning on cutting the MLANG school due to funding. It has left me, my fellow students and, of course, lecturers feeling disillusioned, not only for our academic futures, but for the future of Cardiff in terms of cultural and linguistic diversity. The governing body has shown a disregard for the importance of languages which is frightening, especially in the capital, and especially in our increasingly globalised and interconnected world where we should be bridging the gaps between nations and promoting linguistic plurality, not preventing it.

I like the mixture of in-class and independent study, although I think learning a language is easier with more in-class learning. However, the quality of seminars is really good, and the seminar/lecture leaders are always supportive, and always encourage us to visit them during their office hours, and I gain a lot from seminars.

Although it is the furthest away from uni, it is worth it for the accommodation. Compared to other options, the bathrooms and rooms are really nice and clean, and it is really close to Tesco and Aldi, which makes food shopping easier. Maintenance is also responsive and any issues we have had in the past have been resolved quickly.
