The friendly environment and huge range of opportunities make it a great place to explore the bounds of my capabilities and experience everything I'd hope to at uni.

There are no formative assignments, so i don't always feel like I have adequate preparation for each writing style

There was little living space. The only place me and my flatmates could socialize within our flat was the kitchen or our individual rooms. The accommodation was hugely convenient in many ways; food was provided, the location was 30 mins walk from the city, right next to my degree block, and adjacent to the sports centre

Accommodation is really nice, uni is within good distance of the town & transport to town and the train station is really good. However, some parts of uni are a bit worn down such as vanburgh and derwent and it would be better if the 66/67 bus stopped at Halifax college instead of just heslington hall. It would also be better if they had more shops on campus so you don't have to go into town for everything and the one shop, the nisa local, is far too expensive. There needs to be cheaper options especially for quick lunch food.

It feels like the course doesn't have much structure and too much is just left to do in your own time. I know how much I'm supposed to be doing outside of class but I don't know what I'm meant to be doing. I also think that all the lectures being 2 hrs long is too much and its difficult to focus for the entire thing especially when you have one after the other. I think it'd be better to see your supervisor more often that way you can get more guidance on what you should be doing. Additionally i think some lecturers are better than others as some will spend 2 hrs just reading off of slides or talking about their own research. Aswell, the tutorials led by the postgraduate students are not so good and are usually just reading off slides.

Actually really nice! A bit out from the rest of campus meaning it's a bit quieter and the walk to campus isn't bad. Rooms are really nice, modern and a good size. Showers and toilets are good modern and clean. Have had issues with fuses blowing in the kitchen and the fridges and freezers getting no power but maintenance has been really reliable and helped almost instantly. I asked for my radiator to be bled and it was done a few hours later. One downside however is the silverfish and various other spiders etc in the house but I'm not sure how much you can do about that. Additionally, it would be good if there were more social spaces, JJs and st Lawrences are often a bit dead. Considering Halifax is seen as the cheap college I've been really impressed by it and have really liked living here but I'm not sure how much can be said for other colleges.
