One of the best aspects of my experience at the University of Sussex has been the beautiful, green campus and the variety of student societies available. The environment is generally welcoming, and I’ve found the academic support – especially the career weeks and professional events – to be quite helpful.
That said, I’m still in the process of fully adapting. The campus can sometimes feel overcrowded, especially in social areas like cafés, where it’s often difficult to find a place to sit. While there are many student groups, I’ve noticed that students tend to socialize mostly within their own nationalities, which makes it harder to connect across cultures. I don’t think parties are the best solution for encouraging interaction – the university could improve its community building by organizing better-planned, more inclusive events.
Another area that could be improved is the library. Although it’s a valuable resource, it is often noisy, and people sometimes eat inside, which can be distracting. Stricter enforcement of library rules would really enhance the study environment.
Additionally, some campus services are quite expensive. For example, printing at the library is costly — offering students at least 50 free pages per term and charging only beyond that could be a fairer system. Similarly, the cost of laundry on campus is high, and many students find it burdensome. Reducing these costs would go a long way in supporting students' day-to-day needs.
Overall, the university offers a strong academic experience in a beautiful setting, but there is room for improvement in terms of social integration, campus resource management, and affordability.

One of the best aspects of my course is the content itself — it is highly relevant, up-to-date, and well-structured. The topics are engaging, especially given how fast technology and law evolve together. Most lecturers are supportive and open to questions, and the academic materials provided are helpful and comprehensive.
The contact hours are reasonable, but more one-on-one academic support or feedback sessions would be appreciated, especially for students coming from different legal backgrounds. Overall, the course provides a solid academic foundation, but a more interactive and practice-oriented approach could make it even better.
As a postgraduate and an international student, I sometimes feel that certain career events are mainly tailored for undergraduate students or those who plan to qualify as solicitors or barristers in the UK. While these sessions can be informative, they don’t always align with the specific needs of students in my course or those aiming to work in international or non-traditional legal roles.
I believe there should be more career events specifically related to my field (IT and IP law), both during and after the course. It would be extremely helpful to have more opportunities to connect with professionals in the sector, including alumni, recruiters, and industry experts. These kinds of targeted career support initiatives would greatly enhance our chances of building relevant networks and securing employment after graduation.

University halls
What do you think about the safety, condition, location and cost of your accommodation?
What I like most about the university halls is the convenience — being on campus makes it easier to attend classes and access university facilities. The rooms are generally comfortable, and having a private bathroom is definitely a plus. Living close to other students also creates opportunities to socialize and make friends, especially at the beginning of the year.
However, there are a few downsides. The cost of laundry is quite high, which adds up over time. For the rent students are paying, I believe some basic services like laundry could be included or at least offered at a reduced rate. Also, common areas like kitchens can get crowded or messy, depending on who you share with. Socially, people often stick to their own cultural groups, which can make it harder to feel part of a diverse community.
Overall, the halls offer a decent living experience, but with better pricing for essential services and more community-building efforts, it could be greatly improved.
