I love my course, especially Portuguese as the teaching is very hands on and you can tell that the languages department as a whole cares a lot about their students. I also think that the location of the uni and the city as a whole is a great place to study as there is so much to do. However, with the onslaught of strikes it is a massive shame that the teachers in my department and SALC as a whole are undervalued and appreciated which then means my classmates and I cannot fully experience what would otherwise be a really great and fulfilling course. After also talking to my teachers and lecturers I just wish that the university would value them as highly as teachers in STEM, for example.

I think both Spanish and Portuguese are amazingly taught subjects by passionate teachers and lecturers. We get a lot of small group teaching and interesting classes and discussions. However, Portuguese is perhaps not valued as highly by the university as modules have got cancelled due to our small cohort and we had to fight to be allowed onto a different module instead at a later date.

What do you think about the safety, condition, location and cost of your accommodation?
It was perhaps better value than the other accommodation in Fallowfield. People were also very sociable etc. However, it was also disgusting. I had mice in my room as did other people for which we were blamed even though we made sure to keep the flat tidy. It also felt unsafe as people smashed the door to our block open and the constant noise outside meant it was unsettling at best. Also, the price of oak house is appalling considering it is outdated and should be knocked down for many health reasons.
