University rating
Tell us about your overall university experience so far.
The university is small, but in all essence that is what makes it one of the best for your educational needs. The university because of its size allows tutors to get to know students better, help with academic work one-to-one, and finally can help recognise what career/opportunities are best for you. The lack of 5 stars comes from the area in which the university is situated. The Manchester campus i'm sure is fantastic, but in Crewe, there are little external opportunities to take, such as work experience- often this leads to finding experience outside of the area, which may be costly.
Facilities
How good are your university's facilities?
Everything you want no matter what degree you end up studying
Student support
How good is the support offered by the uni? Think both academic (tutors/feedback) and personal (counselling, etc).
Fantastic. They are always listening, and can provide fantastic advice on future career opportunities.
Students' union
What do you think of your Students' Union in terms of student representation and facilities?
Not the best. They provide events and societies, but if you are not attending at the main campus (all saints), the union don't provide as much fun. In a way they kind of isolate the other areas, giving all the events, acts and activities to those studying at all saints.
Local life
Is your university in a good location in terms of distance to accommodation and local amenities?
It's Crewe. Enough said there really. The reason it gets two stars is that there is a good train station that can get you home at weekends, or to a city that is actually interesting
Societies and Sports
How would you rate the variety of societies/sports?
They provide a lot of societies and clubs, however if you join one students often get taken out of lessons on Wednesdays, distracting them away from work. Compared to a uni like Leeds, this is where MMU (cheshire) falls down.
Lecturers and teaching quality
What do you like most and least about the way your course(s) are taught?
Most university lecturers are superb, giving one-to-one help where needed, which is much assisted by the size of the university. There are always going to ones you do not like, but the vast majority are fantastic.
Career prospects
How does your uni make efforts to increase your employability (careers department, work placements, transferable skills)?
Despite not having many local work experience opportunities, the university a vast range of links outside of the area, which can help when finding placements or work. In terms of sports (my degree area), there are more opportunities than you can think of, each individual tutor or the employment office can provide, such as links with football academies and sporting organisations.
University halls
What do you think about the safety, condition, location and cost of your accommodation?
Good value, facilities, size and local shops. All within range of the uni, train station and town centre. Really good!
