Although I achieved a 2:1 this was despite rather than because of the tutoring and facilities available. Don't expect a great deal if you dare to express opinions about the course structure, facilities organisation etc or if you or your work does not appeal. I found the course to be chaotic and lacking in contact. I felt that I may as well have been working on my own. This place is trying to be a university - but does not have the calibre of students,staff or facilities to even come close to the standards that I would associate with such an institution,

No facilities in halls except laundrette and room of course. Bar at Knights park was small dingey and hardly used. Very limited cafe at Knights Park. Opening times of all facilities was very limited, particularly library hours at weekends. Photography facilities very poor - limited hours for borrowing a poor selection of kit. Unfair systems on booking, with changes often communicated by word of mouth. Hours of opening often coincided with lectures so advantage could not be taken without losing the few chances of tuition that were in fact available.

Student Union was very good - but finance departments and others were poor. Not sympathetic at all to genuine financial hardship caused by Student finance and incompetence and poor systems meant they were also unable to resolve difficulties which were not the students fault.

So near London - how can you complain. Kingston itself had shops, cafes , bars and clubs. Gyms etc - no problem

Limited appeal - mainly political or cultural. The Cake society was of interest but unable to start as no cooking area.

Course was disorganized and understaffed. Some staff have been there too long to understand the changing needs of students - there is a tendency to dwell on the past too much, with an inflexibility in outlook. Some do have a lot of influence within the university so if you work well with them and do what they say you will do well here - regardless of your level of talent. Course had limited content or structure - you are effectively on your own. I found that my photographic techniques were not developed on this course - nor was my knowledge of professional requirements. If they like your photographic signature they may take an interest, however I find that I was on my own. There are only guest lectures, mainly from practicing artists - not necessarily photographers, who will tell you about their experiences. As budgets ran out the guest lecturers were sometimes lecturers teaching at the Uni, There was very limited workshops on technical aspects of photography/lighting etc. - in the final year there was just one workshop on 5 by 4 - which only a few were invited to, in the first instance and one other which I can't remember - framing/presentation - perhaps. There were a number of poorly attended meetings, organised in an attempt to facilitate exhibitions put on by the group.

Have applied through the KUTalent Scheme but sometimes the roles are not actually available - excuse given awaiting funding - despite attendance at interview. Virtually all sent to me were internships and predominantly sales. Countless job applications in my chosen field - but not even an interview. Kingston is clearly not impressing

Facilities are great ! You can use any of the workshops no matter what subject you take. The location is okay, close to london but it does cost quite a bit to get into london compared to other london boroughs. Student union is great on a friday night, although it shuts at 11 but you can always go out in Kingston after.

You get a lot of 1-2-1 help, at least 1 a week, more if you want! The tutors are really friendly and have a genuine interest in your education. There are modules about work placements although I wish I spoke to my tutors more for help finding a placement.
