York is for sure welcoming, the campus is so pretty and they make efforts to maintain that. There was also a huge effort in welcoming us in as first year undergrads but also as postgrads. I do however think there isn't much support available for students, there aren't enough practitioners on site and it's not obvious where to go for support - they can be quite resistant to change when asked

My course is very niche and it's nice that we're studying exactly what we signed up for, this wasn't the case during undergrad - i found the course to be very general which is why i ended up doing a masters anyways. Due to the content of my course it makes sense that we have lecturers who are very conscious and considerate to student needs, things like uploading powerpoints a week in advance, understanding why students might not be in class, checking in on us etc. I think the assessment styles also have prepared us for loads of different career opportunities as we cover such a wide range of topics.

The uni is not really diverse at all, BAME students and staff are the minority but there are societies like BAS which are great for students and are really nice to be apart of. There is a bus that runs through campus and town and between east and west campus but they could be a little more frequent. Lots of opportunities for work through the YUSU bars. There is a lot of very cheap food on campus but houses now are at about £10,500 whilst this is student landlords who have upped their prices i'm surprised the univeristy hasn't done anything to try and appeal to the local council. then again the uni has upped their halls prices

I liked Halifax a lot, i know lots of people would say it's far from campus but its only really a 15 minute walk and it was nice to have that separation between home and uni. it was a bit strange though because we would often just have maintenance people come in and we wouldnt know about it and that could be a bit much i guess - would have just been nice to know who was coming into the house and when. It was fairly priced, my room was huge for what it's worth - obviously with a single bed you free up space but it was nice for sure - i had a huge desk as well so that was great. the wifi was always good too, i've never had an issue with it
