My first year at Bangor university so far has been fabulous! I was anxious about going into further education after taking a gap year but the feel of the course has been amazing. Though the first year of nursing is entirely mixed, all fields together it still somehow felt like being in a small group of students. The lecturers have been beyond helpful the whole way along, responding to any concerns or feedback we had as a cohort and also listening to any changes we felt needed to happen to the delivery of certain things. The facilities at Bangor are also brilliant, there are multiple different buildings and of course the unforgettable main arts building. One thing that has been made clear by the university during my first year has been the importance of the student union to them. They are extremely proud of the fact that students voices and opinions mean something to them and they are always taking things on board. Oh and you can’t forget, Bangor university has a massive range of clubs and societies to join, and they are probably the only university to designate an afternoon in the students timetables to encourage us to take part in a hobby or join a society (or watch Netflix in bed ;) whatever suits you)

The course follows the Nursing and Midwifery councils code, therefore it will include the same principles of other nursing courses in the uk. You are faced with 3 placement blocks per year which can be in a range of different settings, an example of one of my placements include being out with school nursing teams and health visiting teams. The lecturers and tutors have all been amazing when presenting their lectures, the university do a good job of ensuring all presentations are available to us prior and after the lectures to be able to refer back to. The university also pre record or record some of the lectures attended so that you are able to refer back to. This is useful if you hear someone ask a question and they are answered in the live lecture. The facilities at Bangor for nursing students are amazing. There is a simulation lab with a simulation ward which is an amazing introduction to the feel of working on a ward. Most of the skills training happen here, such as donning and doffing ppe and all the interesting stuff such as injection techniques and how to do basic observations.
