The facilities for this course are fantastic with their own dedicated hack lab and connections to the Abertay Cyber Quarter. Lots of opportunity to explore different areas of Cyber Security and attaining skills for penetration testing in a safe environment. However the course has a heavy emphasis on self-guided learning, with a few lectures/labs to provide a starting direction. This isn't necessarily a good or bad thing, but an observation, which will be dependant on the individual and their style of learning. Majority of the library content is digital, however it is vast in quantity offering access to a lot of content that would normally be behind expensive paywalls. I found quite a bit of the physical content to be dated. The university is small, meaning that student life is focussed on a few societies that are tailored to compliment their respective degrees. I found that more of the student life is found at the Dundee University which Abertay students can join. The campus is a blend of modern architecture and work labs with old building traditional style classrooms. The location of the university is perfect. At the centre of the city with walking distance to all the main bus stop links and the main Dundee train station allowing easy commuting. The city is also quite affordable, especially when comparing campuses at major cities like London, making it much easier for the wallet. The city has good access links to other major Scottish cities like Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Aberdeen. Also offers direct train service to London, and a small airport to fly to remote regions of Scotland or directly to London. One issue I have is that it feels it has abandoned the principal of hybrid learning. While lectures are pre-recorded and put online, a lot of the learning is done on campus and not recorded which makes it more difficult for part time students who still need to work due to financial reasons, despite advertising similar courses at masters level to be fully online (i.e. the content on the Ethical Hackers masters have the same modules that their bachelors does, yet one can be done remotely and the other not?)

The main offering of the course is to provide facilities for self study alongside access to a vast array of information. While the university does like to promote industry partnerships, there seems to be little to help with achieving industry qualifications that are offered by Microsoft, CISCO and Red Hat that the market likes to require. The lectures are pre-recorded and posted online, with a couple of on-site guided lab sessions that are not recorded. There is an emphasis that support is only provided during those on-site lab sessions, which can make it difficult for those who part time study and work.
