Tell us about your overall university experience so far.

I transferred to Kingston University London (from University of Surrey) in the second year of my PhD. I love it here so much I wish I had begun my PhD at Kingston University London so I could have spent one extra year here!

Job Prospects

How does your uni make efforts to increase your employability (careers department, work placements, transferable skills)?

Kingston University London offers numerous workshops aimed at helping postgraduate researchers and early career researchers enhance their employability. Some focus on making students aware of their existing transferable skills, whilst others focus on networking or opportunities for engaging with cultural partners.

Course and Lecturers

What do you like most and least about the way your course(s) are taught?

The staff are so passionate and knowledgeable, which is really inspiring :)

Students' Union

What do you think of your Students' Union in terms of student representation and facilities?

I do not get involved with the Students' Union because most of their visibility appears to be centred around voting for Presidents, Vice Presidents and the like. I find such popularity contests and mimicking of American political culture quite frankly disturbing.

Uni Facilities

How good are your university's facilities?

Some areas of the university (such as Visconti Studio) are amazing and completely state of the art. Other areas need serious work (for example during one workshop in a building held together with scaffolding I felt constantly anxious the ceiling would fall in, and a row of seats in the lecture theatre did indeed collapse!)

Local life

Is your university in a good location in terms of distance to accommodation and local amenities?

It's got a lot going for it but has too much of the vibe of central London for my taste (i.e. filled with busy people rushing around who don't even have the common decency to look you in the eye).

Societies and Sports

How would you rate the variety of societies/sports?

I'm not sure -- I'm not involved with any!

Student Support

How good is the support offered by the uni? Think both academic (tutors/feedback) and personal (counselling, etc).

My supervisor is amazing and provides me with such excellent support that I have never had to look elsewhere. However I am aware that other avenues for support are available and that is good to know :)
