Lancaster uni has a wonderful campus which only takes about ten minutes to get to one side to the other, meaning lectures are always easy to get to. The campus is easy to navigate once you get used to it and there is plenty of maps if you get lost. Their eco friendly message is also something I appreciate, with them often holding events to promote sustainability. There is a free bus to town for groceries and shops on site in case you forget anything, along with the availability of home delivered Asda and Tesco shops. My only complaints would be that the on site shops can be pricey, which is understandable as they are effectively express shops, however this does not work well on a uni student budget. However, they more than make up for it in terms of on site markets and free coffee and food fairly frequently which definitely helps. In terms of the course, they keep us busy as advertised but so far it has not been too overwhelming. The maths side of things is ran through very quickly but they have plenty of support to help you keep up. Most lessons have catch up labs to allow you some leniency if you are not particularly quick in any one practical or if you happen to miss it due to illness. The lecturers vary, most leave plenty of time for questions and will ensure we can hear them however a few do not. Overall, they are good at teaching and at Lancaster all lectures are recorded so if you miss any you can watch them back, and the PowerPoints or hand written notes are uploaded along with it, so anything you don't understand you can go over again in your own time. Furthermore, the university has it's own employability and recruitment scheme to help students get part time jobs alongside their studies. My personal experience at Lancaster university has been a good one and they only have a few points to improve on.

Being just one bus trip away the city of lancaster is not far away at all, and with the buses going all around campus grocery shopping is not a massive pain. There is plenty of other shops around and a market every wednesday and Saturday, which is worth checking out because there is a wide variety of things being sold from pork pies to handcrafted bracelets. There is plenty of places to eat and drink, even a student union run night club which is as safe as it gets. The campus itself is wonderful, there is plenty of greenery as well as bars and common rooms for pepole to meet.

I am currently staying in the cheapest accommodation available at Lancaster university. For this price I think my accommodation is really good. My room is quite spacious even with an airer and laundry basket in it. Also, the walls are well sound proofed so once you are in your room you can't hear anyone in their rooms. The view from my room is also lovely as I can see the main square (Alexandra square) from my window and I can see the library. It is especially good now with the Christmas markets on. Our kitchen is quite big, and the amount of cupboard space is more than enough for the 7 people staying in our flat. We have two ovens, two hobs, two toasters and three kettles plus a microwave which is more than enough for us, and if anything isn't in working order we can report a fault and it is usually fixed before you know it (within a day or two). That also applies for the rooms. The shared bathrooms are of a good quality, however they can have mould showing on the sides of the shower and occasionally a drain gets blocked. Otherwise they are good. We have cleaners at least every week so our kitchen and bathrooms are kept clean for us, saving flat disputes. The accommodation is on the third floor however an elevator is available if you need it. My halls are in the centre of the campus, so most shops and lectures are within a 5 minute walk of my flat which is really convenient. The laundrette is not as close as I'd like to carry all my washing but it is only 2 minutes away so I can't complain.

The location is perfect, its calm and filled with nature, and not too far from big cities if you're looking for an escape every now and then. Whilst the nightlife options are limited, it's the people you meet and what you make out of what you have! My department was super helpful with my intercalation period and made the process less daunting than I thought it would be. Improvements are being made all the time so Im sure the experience will only get better!

While the online teaching was something I personally struggled to get comfortable with, having fully inperson content now has been refreshing and much more valuable. The contact time you get with your lectures is great and theres always workshops on career prospects and guest speakers coming to share their experiences, so the uni does make an effort to open your eyes for the future. The balance of pure content and foward-sightedness of the course content is reassuring, as I feel like my learning will be able to assist me for the way my field is heading in the real world

I felt like for what we were paying, what we got was a little underwhelming, but if you're a first year, theres no better way to meet other new students and make friends, and feel safe than staying at the uni halls. Alot of my friends in different colleges and varying experiences, so some it does come down to luck, but also what you make of your time there.
