You'll get a really high quality degree, but that is only one tiny bit of what makes Nottingham so great. There are so many things to get involved in. There's a society for most things. If you can't find what you're looking for, then you can make your own, and the SU will be really supportive. The SU isn't just societies; it's volunteering, it's media, it's campaigning, it's there to support you and represent you. They're there to help you make the most out of your uni life, and they'll really encourage you to do that. I have had the best time, and honestly think I have the university to thank for that.

The uni is constantly updating and improving their facilities, they're really good at listening to students and giving us the things we want too!

The university and the SU both have a lot of support available for students. There is lots of advertising for the services available so you always know where to go to find it. Every student has a personal tutor within their school who they meet with regularly to check everything is going ok. We also have Nightline, which is a 'listening service' you can ring or chat using instant messaging online if you just want someone to talk to. Nightline is of course completely anonymous

The best bit about Nottingham uni. SO many things to do. You never have an excuse to be bored! So many people to meet whilst doing fun things. It's totally student run too, which means it is really easy to get involved in the running of things, which means you get to make the decisions! There are loads of support networks throughout the SU such as financial support, counselling services, academic support etc. The SU is there to support you throughout your studies in whatever way you need, and they do a really good job of that!

Nottingham is quite an arty city, which means there are always things to do and see in the city centre. There are two big universities in Nottingham which means that loads of things in the city are designed for students. Having so many students around makes it all feel quite safe too!

The best bit about the uni. So many to choose from. So easy to set up your own. All completely student run. So you can run them too!

The University is very research focussed, which means that your lecturers will be the top in their field. This dos sometimes mean they are not the best teachers (you can't have the best of both worlds!). But the university has a brilliant academic support system, and there will always be people willing to help you if you are struggling!

Careers service are great. All the extra curricular things there are to get involved in make you far more employable than just getting a good degree (which of course you will get at Nottingham).

Halls are great fun. Whether you're catered or self catered, it's very easy to make friends. In your first week there are a few second year students living in halls with you to organise social events for you and help you get settled. There's a really fun rivalry between the halls, and you will end up loving the hall you are in, whichever hall that is!

The University of Nottingham is a place that feels like home to most students that go there. The campus is gorgeous and has so many places to meet friends, go to events and just explore the green environment around halls, lecture theatres and other campus buildings. During my time at Nottingham I have met so many people through all off the opportunities that I’ve gained from being here such as joining societies, going to events at the university, working for Unitemps and even just going to lectures! The easy links to Nottingham city center via tram, bus or electric scooter makes this Uni the perfect blend of a pleasant campus with busy city life. Improvements I could suggest for the University of Nottingham would be to reduce strikes. In Spring this year there are 18 days of planned strikes by the lecturers which will affect thousands of students at this university. Staff are clearly feeling undervalued as their pay and pension continues to drop. This takes many things away from the student teacher relationship at nottingham, as we are robbed of the time and experience we would have otherwise on these missed days. Lecturers are the backbone of university, as they are the people who inspire students and help them to fulfil their learning goals. My university experience would be vastly different without the staff at the University who have supported me and provided so many opportunities which have made my time here so great.

The mathematical sciences department has a great building with load of fun accessible places to work, as well as events going on and lecturers around to help and support your work. The course has many opportunities with content to choose from such as pure, applied, statistics, coding and finance. What I’ve loved so much about studying this course is the diverse and interesting topics available to explore, such as modules on biomedical mathematics, and black holes. I’ve met loads of great friends through my course by going to lectures and workshops, through my group tutor meetings in first year, attending events in the maths building and going to socials run by the maths society MathSoc. Improvements I can think of mainly relate to increasing the range of modules available to students, particularly in fourth year. For example in third year the Fluid Dynamics and Electromagnetism modules were really interesting and fun to learn, and it would be great if there were any further modules in fourth year that extended from them.

The location of Derby Hall was great, as it was a 10 minute walk from lectures, 5 minute walk from the David Ross Sports Centre, and 3 minute walk to the nearest bus into town. I met my main friends in first year through people that I lived with, which helped me to have a fun social life and solidify foundations of friends to live with for the next few years. I always felt safe in the halls, as they are quite closed in and everywhere requires key or student card access, and there is 24 hour security.
