The support I receive from my department is exceptional. As a PhD student, I have a shared office and a laptop provided and I can email any of the staff with any queries or issues I have and they will be resolved very quickly. The campus has improved quite substantially since I did my undergraduate degree here and in a. positive way. The location of the university is great with easy access to Manchester, the Lake District, and the Peak District. There are numerous student activities one can partake in giving a great breadth of choice. The elected officers in the Students' Union (SU) are exceptional and do care about student welfare. The salaried members of the SU give the impression that they don't care about student welfare. Last year I captained a sports team and had to raise a complaint with the SU. The SUs handling of the complaint was abysmal from start to finish. If I didn't push the complaint nothing would have been done. I sat down with the SU to explain this and they were receptive and started to implement changes but I am unsure if these have come to fruition yet.

I get adequate supervision from my supervisors who are experts in their field. I rarely have an issue with accessing journals or books. IT issues are resolved very quickly with the help of our IT specialist. I would love more training from the department in both soft and technical skills as it feels like we are left to learn how to be a researcher on our own sometimes.

The lecturer's are very knowledgeable and supportive, and they are genuinely interested in our success and well-being. The campus itself is very clean and well-maintained, and notably has very little visible litter. There is often construction around campus, so it can be quite loud in the afternoons. There are many places to study around campus, and the library is huge. There is a wide range of societies and taster events, so it is easy to meet new people and to explore different interests and hobbies. There is a farmers' market every Thursday, and there is a lovely brownie stall there!

The course is almost solely thought via in-person lectures, but lectures are often recorded and uploaded alongside lecture notes. We get at least 10 hours of contact hours each week. The lecturers are very helpful and have weekly office hours, and are open to helping you via email outside of those office hours.

It is quite cheap, less than 150 a week. We have cleaners who clean the kitchen and bathroom weekly (I think), and they are super lovely. There are occasionally silverfish in the stairs. The bedrooms and their windows are quite big, and we share two bathrooms and showers between the 8 of us.
