I enjoy studying at Heriot watt because it has a diverse culture. It is a well equipted but the computer lab is packed. I would definiatelly recommend students to consider coming to my University.

I am currently on my second year studying at Heriot-Watt University but decided after first year that I wanted to change my course as it did not feel like it was the right thing for me. The departments in both my old course and the mathematics department, of which I am now a part of, couldn't have been more helpful and put myself at ease during a rather difficult decision and transition. With the maths department there is so much support with both lecturers and the others that take the course too and are never left feeling like you are alone. There are multitudes of study spaces so no matter what kind of space you are looking for, a quiet room, group study space, somewhere with an atmosphere around it, there is always something for you to find. The student facilities are great as well and extremely welcoming. The student shop is open until 10pm everyday so you're not without some necessities for long if you are either living on campus or are having a long day of studying there, an the student union which has a cafe and a bar with kitchen is always a great place to be able to relax for a little while or have a bit of time out with some friends. This is open from 9am till late every day. So, there is always something to do, this is especially useful as one downside to Heriot-Watt is the location. Don't get me wrong it is a beautiful sight and I love the quietness of it as that is more of what I am used to over the big city life, however, the university is just that little bit out of the way and makes it slightly more awkward for getting in and out of central. The buses are great, but regardless of how well the buses may be it can still take up to an hour to get in to the city centre depending the time of day and the traffic. But like it said, that is only one downfall in oppose to the many, many positives of which there are at Heriot-Watt University.

With mathematics currently it has all been face to face and no online lectures. Everything that I need to know and all of the lectures are posted online so I am never without the resources I need, if for whatever reason I have had to miss a lecture. So far I am in lectures everyday but it is only for a few hours each day, this does mean however I don't exactly have a day off other than the weekend but I tend to be working then anyway so I don't really have a down day. Contacting lecturers is not difficult to do and they all make themselves more than available to talk to if there is anything wrong and you are needing some extra support. Two out of my four course in first semester do not have an exam at the end if them and have been getting graded purely on assignments throughout the last few months whereas the other two, Statistics and Calculus, have both got exams coming up but they both had assessments throughout the last few months that give us a head start with grades so it means my grade isn't coming only from the exam, which takes a lot of the pressure off. There have been not just face to face lectures, there have also been workshops with a couple of the classes too which is a great way to talk to the other people of the course and get to answering questions in exam style with the lecturers be able to watch over what you're doing and give you pointers in the moment. This also made it feel a lot easier to talk to my lecturers as everybody felt equal at the workshops.
