I study at the University of Brighton on the Falmer campus. Overall, I absolutely love studying here. The campus itself is small and friendly and the facilities reflect that. I really enjoy studying in the library, there is a fantastic range of reading materials, computers and support. There are nice cafes and seated areas and easy links to transport nearby, the lecture halls could do with being warmer so looking forward to spring! The tutors on my course for English Literature are incredible. Very supportive. I trust they are all very knowledgeable on their subjects which makes it exciting to learn from them. There is not one that I feel I could not go and talk to. The modules themselves are really interesting, progressive and diverse. I feel like I am getting an all round scope of Literature and not just the classics. Unfortunately due to Covid 19 and union strikes, I have missed out on a lot of teaching which is the only downside to my time here so far. Where possible tutors have supplied ample online learning and infinite reading materials, which is the best of a bad situation. I cannot comment too much on students union and student accommodation as I am a mature student and rent privately. From what friends say they are very happy. Brighton is a beautiful, lively and colourful city to explore and I would highly reccomend studying here. As with everything, you only get out what you are willing to put in.

The course is taught in 3 modules per semester. For each module you will have one lecture and one seminar per week. The lecture is taught in large groups where there are usually slides, demonstrations and a lot of information, this is where you make your notes and plan your workload. The seminar is when you reflect on the lecture and work in groups or individually to respond to the material. In the time in between you will do your set/required reading, prepare for the seminar and optional further reading. All this will shape the modules, if you do all the work, the module should be accessible for everyone and enjoyable. The tutors are very helpful and it is not about being right or wrong, just discussing ideas. When lessons have to be cancelled, there may be an online option or you will have to work on the material yourself.

The University of Brighton is a great place to study; in the heart of the city, you're only ever a stones throw away from the beach or the iconic Lanes. All the staff are incredibly supportive and there's little doubt they want you to achieve your full potential. The only downside of my time at the University of Brighton was that much of my time was marred by strikes. Whilst I 100% back and support all striking workers, it was clear that University management had very little care for staff and students. Especially if you're a humanities subject.

All lecturers are easily contactable and will go out of their way to ensure that you get the most out of your course. Except for the first year, all of my classes were in person and were a great source of learning. Healthy debate is encouraged in both lectures and seminars and everyone's voice is heard and appreciated. I only scored work placement and internships so low because I didn't go on an placements and therefore cannot comment.

My halls were a 2-minute walk away from Falmer campus and was in a great spot for public transport. It is a little way out of the way so coming home from a night out did sometimes feel like a chore, but the 25 bus goes straight from the centre of Brighton to Falmer campus. Circuit laundry is a bit expensive, but if you plan it properly and do a big load each time, it shouldn't be too bad.
