I love the old buildings, they make me want to study more. However I just think that the uni is a bit far from the city center.

I love my classes, however I think there is to much personal work and not enough in class training

I love that it is a place where I can meet other student and that it is not very far from uni. I feel very safe here and I am glad that my hall is cleaned nearly daily. However, it feels very unpersonal and it is small and I sometimes feels like I’m in prison. Also it is a very far from the city.

Genuinely have loved being a student at Aberdeen since I moved here four years ago. The campus has a fun mixture of old and new buildings and plenty of spaces for students to socialize or get work done, and it only takes 15 minutes to walk from one end of campus to the other. The sports center is well developed with full gyms, courts, pools, etc. and is right across the road from the main campus. Student union building is cozy and the officers do a lot to encourage student activities as well as support initiatives for those struggling with housing, food costs, community integration, etc.. There are a ton of active sports clubs and societies for every hobby you could be interested in that are a great place to meet others with common interests, and plenty of spaces to meet new people and socialize and have a good time. The uni itself offers a really wide range of services from student financial support to mental health counseling to career readiness services - truly any issue you find yourself struggling with there are multiple systems in place to help you. All of the professors are lovely and genuinely care about the wellbeing and success of their students, I've always been treated as an individual by staff and not just a number, which is sometimes the standard in higher education institutions. Overall I've been just really happy at Aberdeen, the vibe is welcoming and supportive and there are plenty of opportunities to challenge yourself academically and grow as a person. I couldn't have asked for anything more out of my uni experience. The main campus is somewhat separated from the city center (maybe 30-40 min walk to the main street), but you can also just hop on a bus for free if you're 21 and under, and there are plenty of shops/pharmacies/etc. around the university still. Only real complaint is the issues in recent years with overall funding that have led to problems for professors/students union and activities grants/etc., as most of the things that make the university as amazing as it is are the first to be negatively impacted by faults in the budget - but this is more of an administrative issue to be resolved rather than anything physical about the uni.

The MLTI undergraduate degree is more streamlined and requires more dedication/pre-existing time management skills compared to other language degrees, but for those certain about what they want to study or want to optimize their time spent in uni it's a fantastic program. The program is headed by professionals who have experience in Translation and Interpreting, a genius at everything she does. You gain a really strong basis in two working languages of your choice (thanks to the fantastic teachers in the language departments), and both theoretical and practical experience in translation and interpretation that prepares you for professional work within the field, all supplemented by linguistics and culture courses. Included within the program is a year spent abroad between two countries (of your two chosen working languages) that you can choose to do as a work placement or study exchange depending on your goals, and that either way will look great on a CV and give you a lot of transferable skills. The year abroad also is included in your years spent 'in-teaching', so you're able to complete the program in 4 years as opposed to 5, which is the standard for other language degrees. The program also specifically prepares students to enter into careers related to translation and interpretation, which can be helpful as it provides more technical skill and specialization beyond generalized language degrees.
