The English department is an exciting and versatile space where students are able to explore their interests in and out of contact hours. Although the physical location can be confusing and constricting the mental space is a welcome liberation.

The actual contact hours, although somtimes sparse, are intellectually stimulating and exciting despite the limited facilities and post graduation schemes.

As the newest block there was a lot of maintenance work being done while living there, yet the facilities were clean and practical and felt very appropriate for the rent.

Coming from a different educational system, I was pretty amazed by the Student union that makes Uni look like from a film! Hence, there is so much opportunities to be part of, and you have always a place to go. I also started doing many new things such as Pole Excercise or writing for a student magazine. What I also really love is the digitalisation - not only the study resources, but even generating letters or online booking appointments. And I love the library, its opening hours and the library cafe. And the campus overall! It is so beautful in the morning and there is so much animals and trees! If there is something I am unsure of is that I feel lack of guidance regarding our independent study. It is my very first time writing an essay but I am unable to discuss my structure and argument with my tutor. So, I can only wait for the feedback.

It is a productive time spent on every lecture and seminar, and I feel it is intelectually very demanding (in the good way). However, maybe I would prefer more contact hours and less independent study. Also, I dont really know anything about internships, but it goes hand in hand with my course. :)

It already feels like home. I find Halifax very cozy and I think it is the most beautiful area around Uni - Heslighton is gorgeous, we are basically surrounded by nature and sport fields and it feels very peaceful but at the same time lively. There is something about the brown bricks :) Housing system also creates a place that is not too loud but at the same time not too lonely. However, it was very very cold until they turned on our heating and it wasnt the most comfortable thing.
