A great uni with tons of support networks and degree options:-
- MyCareerCentral is a really great career advice and job searching centre for students.
- The uni is very connected, students running the shops for students etc;
- The bar has a really nice atmosphere where everyone can relax and have fun.
- The sheer amount of degree choices and interchangeability is fantastic.
Facilities
How good are your university's facilities?
The library and IT facilities are great. If you're not very tech-savvy don't worry as the library staff teach you how to use their system, look for citations and navigate the university portal. The wi-fi works fairly well if you're in the accommodations although I struggled to add my 3DS to it which was somewhat frustrating.
Student support
How good is the support offered by the uni? Think both academic (tutors/feedback) and personal (counselling, etc).
The staff are always willing to help you with whatever issues you have at the time. There are support networks for finance, health, academic issues etc.
You get your own academic adviser who you can talk to about these problems - they might not be able to help you directly but they'll certainly point you in the right direction.
It's good to get to know your adviser also, as they can help you out a lot when it comes to the end of your degree and you're writing a big piece of work.
Students' union
What do you think of your Students' Union in terms of student representation and facilities?
The student union has a vast array of societies you can join, so I'm sure you'll find something you enjoy doing there.
The SU bar and SU shop are all run by students for students which allows for students who need that bit of extra cash to work there.
Local life
Is your university in a good location in terms of distance to accommodation and local amenities?
Norwich as a city is really pretty and nice even if you just want to have a walk around. There are plenty of cafes and restaurants, and everything is reasonably priced.
The nightlife is pretty good, there are different clubs hosting different club themed nights most nights of the week.
Societies and Sports
How would you rate the variety of societies/sports?
As previously mentioned, there are lots and lots of clubs and societies that you can get involved with.
I noticed particularly at this university there is a heavy focus on environmentally friendly issues within societies - I was walking down one aisle in the freshers fair that was completely full with those kinds of societies.
Lecturers and teaching quality
What do you like most and least about the way your course(s) are taught?
The sheer amount of courses or combination of courses you can do is fantastic.
I'm currently a Translation, Media and Japanese student doing additional modules in German. It's incredibly interchangeable.
The lecturers, in my case at least, are very good at their job; they explain things effectively and are fully willing to listen to any queries you have on the subjects.
Career prospects
How does your uni make efforts to increase your employability (careers department, work placements, transferable skills)?
As mentioned before, MyCareerCentral help out a lot with career advice and job searching. They also offer workshops designed to either help you develop skills useful in the workplace, or guest lecturers from big businesses come over to discuss application processes and how to do well in them etc.
University halls
What do you think about the safety, condition, location and cost of your accommodation?
The student accommodation is really nice, I've lived on the university village which is about a 10 minute walk from the university itself. I preferred this due to it being substantially cheaper and the walk in the morning keeps you fresh.
Norwich is really great for accommodation as well, the rents are cheap and the locations are nice.
