Aberdeen is a great place for students. It is relatively safe, there are lots of things to do and has great nightlife. What could be improved is the transport links to Aberdeen. In terms of what the Uni could do - they could improve the student hub and food places on campus are very expensive. As the uni is situated a bit far away from town, there are limited options.

In-person classes are the most effective for learning which is the primary method of teaching on this course. The lecturers and tutors are all really engaging and try to ensure you get the most out of the class. We don't have many opportunities for work experience or placements however, you are mostly expected to get these on your own.

Very expensive for accommodation but bills are included I suppose. The location was quite far away from town so difficult to get back after a night out, especially being a girl. Really safe premises though and staff on hand 24/7 if you have any issues. Liked my flatmates a lot!

Overall, lecturers appear to be very experienced and knowledgeable and often reply quickly to any enquiries you may have. The teaching itself is to a high standard and modules are delivered in an accessible way. The campus is lovely and I found it fairly easy to navigate after being there for a few weeks. It’s not too far from the city centre, just about a 20 minute bus (if that) which comes around every 30 minutes. However, in my experience, student support could be far better. There are very few accommodations made when needed for a students individual situations. Unfortunately my impression so far is that it’s an institution which cares about academic success, rather than personal well-being. Although, the student services in Hillhead are helpful in terms of your accommodation and helping you settle in.

The course is taught in person via lectures in a lecture theatre. They are recorded and uploaded to MyAberdeen (lectures sometimes forget to do this). In my first semester, I had 3 law modules, and an optional politics module - each law module was delivered 2-3 times a week via lectures. This would then be followed by a compulsory tutorial delivered by a member of the law school which I often found helpful. However, many lecturers seem to find it difficult to stick to the subject and often go on tangents that don’t at all relate to the course content, and often don’t finish a powerpoint, so when you go back to recordings, there’s a whole chunk of information for your revision that is missing. Although, lecturers are often very easy to access, either by email or talking to them at the end of a lecture, and are usually happy to answer any questions or concerns you have.

The location of the Hillhead Halls is very poor - it is a 25 minute bus which often takes longer than that just to get near the centre of Aberdeen. It is surrounded by Seaton Park which is notoriously unsafe at nighttime, so students often have to make the choice between forking out for a taxi or walking through a very unsafe park. I personally chose to be in a quiet block which works well for me and everyone else in it, I have had no problems there. The internet is also surprisingly fast which I wasn’t expecting. It is definitely not value for money, due to the location not being anywhere near the city, shared bathroom, etc. The property management is also rather questionable, if the fire alarm in your block keeps going off, they usually just disable it.
