Leeds isn’t a big city and lots of international students to interact with if your doing international related degree

Flipped learning setting so emphasis on only reviewing content. Which isn’t bad from a self learner perspective but then not really leaning the grammar from the teachers at all. Lots of teaching time 8 hours per week, but I feel that advanced learners who don’t fit into either the beginner or intermediate class will feel annoyed Plus for year abroad you can’t choose which university you would like to study at.. but people choosing optional years abroad can and have better universities to apply for. Tobira textbook is good, but there’s nothing else we do apart from that. No listening practice sessions. It’s fine to me because I’ve been learning Japanese before university for a while so I don’t really care. But if I was beginner then I feel it would be very overwhelming. Not much of emphasis on employment options, but I’m not doing Japanese for that reason and other people doing Japanese also probably think the same. Support available with the teachers available individually. So the department tells students to use those for help. All the staff are very kind and feels experienced in teaching but the course format I feel could be definitely improved. Maybe my experience of a language school does make my perspective on language learning in university different.

The windows are very old, so they let out all the heat and let in all the sound which is quite loud. And for one the most expensive accoms in Leeds that’s disappointing. Location is great but the common kitchen area is dated at best. New common room which is very nice with large TV and other amenities. Only 8 washing machines for 1000 students tho so as one can imagine very crowded at times

London is expensive. Students residences seem to be the cheapest accommodation and most student halls are quite comfortable. Although there are many attractive restaurants, try to make your food at home.
