Get loads of old, fun photos printed off and cover your bedroom walls in them. Great for an instant pick-me-up and makes your room look cosier. Also if your in a shared halls then keep your bathroom products in your room. Unless you want to get through a bottle of shampoo a week!

To be perfectly honest, I never "fell in love with York" before I came here. I put it down as an arbitrary fifth choice and never dreamed I would end up here. But as cheesy as it sounds I would not want to be anywhere else. Obviously the nightlife does not rival big city unis like Leeds and Newcastle, but what I have found is it is more focused on clubs and societies, which put on a variety of events to suit everyone. It can not be stressed enough how important it is to get involved in at least one of these. Personally I have found There is a really good balance between work and social life, although obviously it is up to the individual exactly how this balance is struck. Despite my strong misgivings initially, I now would not hesitate in recommending York as a fantastic uni to study at (especially for English!)
