One of the best aspects of my university experience has been the academic challenge and the opportunities to engage with the law beyond the classroom. Studying law has encouraged me to think critically, analyse complex issues and develop strong research and communication skills. I have particularly valued opportunities to engage with practical and professional experiences alongside my studies, such as insight events, mentoring programmes and legal work experience, which have helped me understand how academic learning translates into real-world practice. The diversity of students and perspectives at university has also enriched my experience, allowing me to learn from others with different backgrounds and aspirations. Another positive aspect has been the independence university fostered. Managing demanding workloads alongside extracurricular commitments has strengthened my resilience, organisation and self-discipline. These skills have been especially valuable in preparing me for a professional environment. The most challenging aspect of my university experience has been navigating my studies during periods of significant personal difficulty. Experiencing bereavement and family challenges while studying made it harder to maintain consistency at times and highlighted how isolating university can feel when support is not always immediately accessible. While academic support was available, accessing it was not always straightforward, and this experience showed me the importance of clearer, more proactive wellbeing and pastoral support, particularly for students dealing with complex personal circumstances. Overall, my university experience has been both demanding and formative. It has pushed me to grow academically and personally, while also highlighting areas where universities could improve by offering more visible and accessible support systems. Despite the challenges, I am grateful for the opportunities it has given me and the resilience it has helped me develop.

One of the best aspects of my course has been its strong academic structure and emphasis on in-person teaching. The combination of lectures, seminars and practical discussions has helped me engage deeply with complex legal concepts and develop critical thinking and analytical skills. Interactive seminars have been particularly valuable, as they encourage debate, problem-solving and the application of legal principles to real-world scenarios. Having regular contact hours has also helped provide structure and routine, which has supported my learning. I have also valued access to knowledgeable lecturers and tutors who bring subject matter to life through practical examples and professional insight. When engaged directly, this contact has enhanced my understanding of the subject and helped me clarify difficult areas of law. One of the more challenging aspects of the course has been balancing a demanding workload alongside independent study expectations. At times, content-heavy modules and assessment deadlines have felt intense, particularly when combined with limited flexibility in how material is delivered. While online resources are available, some recorded content could be more consistently structured or supplemented with clearer guidance to support independent learning. Additionally, while academic support is available, there is room for improvement in making guidance and feedback more timely and accessible, particularly for students who benefit from clearer structure or additional clarification. Overall, the course has been rigorous and intellectually rewarding, helping me build strong legal foundations. With slightly more consistency in online resources and enhanced academic support, the learning experience could be even more effective.

Westminster truly is a London university with a global perspective. I was fortunate enough to be a recipient of the Global Experience Bursary (GEB) Award. The GEB Award provides students with a grant to participate in work experience, with a duration between 1 to 4 weeks, overseas during the summer holidays. They also offer placements on the Westminster Working Cultures (WWC) throughout the academic year. WWC provides students with a series of workshops and seminars hosted by alumni. These programmes are funded trips held either in the UK or internationally. Lastly, the university offers a mentoring scheme partnering students with a mentor in their chosen career. The university prepares you for life after university and gives you an idea of job prospects not only within the UK but also internationally.

Lessons are always taught in person unless told otherwise. Class sizes tend to be no more than 15 students unless the subject is an elective module and there was not much demand to warrant more than a certain number of tutors.

I opted for the much more modern halls which resulted in the location being further from campus which isn’t great is you have a 9am lecture/tutorial. The location itself has loads of amenities but can get quite busy on match days as it is located next to Wembley Stadium.
