The student life is really good with especially good facilities in the James weir labs to support the learning. The disability and welfare service has a really long waiting time when needing to access their services.

The course covers a wide variety of subjects and is very practical which I enjoy. The jump from having to go from being online to in person especially in terms of exams was quite hard to adjust to

The rooms were lovely and maintenance was really quick to fix any problems. Lord Todd building could be used more for socialising.

The university of Strathclyde is located right in the city centre, this means you have easy access to places such as cafes, pubs and shops. This ALSO means you get to walk to most clubs for nights out! The union is one of the best ones in my opinion. Main complaint is the hills that you have to climb for lectures! You’ll have to get used to that… some of the buildings that are part of Strathclyde look old and abandoned, but the murals make up for it to be honest. Overall, Strathclyde is a very modern, supportive and social university!

Product Design is a fun course however if you’re doing it with Engineering (Product Design Engineering) you’ll have to have some former experience with physics because you’ll be doing Engineering Mechanics as a class which was quite a struggle for me! On the other hand there’s Product Design Innovation which does not involve physics/maths and instead is more design and business orientated.

City centre so everything is close by and walking distance for shopping, eating and clubbing etc.

Birkbeck Court is notorious for being a “slum”, however, I believe it’s the people that make it great and not the place itself. Sure, you’ve got a small room with no sink and you share two bathrooms within the 6 of you, but the experience is great if you’re a social and outgoing person! The amount of memories you form in halls is super worth it and having fun friends is definitely a bonus that you may be lucky to have! There are friends I have from Buchanan View who say they’d rather stay in Birkbeck (I can’t believe it haha) and it’s simply due to the social aspect of it. Id say the best halls to go for are Murray Hall, then Birkbeck Court then Garnett Hall. Birkbeck just doesn’t have a sink in your room but it’s honestly not a big deal, you get used to it very fast. The amount of money you save is extreme compared to going into second year looking for accommodation outside of Strathclyde. P.S. the walls are very thin, you hear A LOT of stuff. Regardless though you’ll be hearing a lot of outside noise from parties etc. fun.
