The University of Glasgow is a diverse community of students, researchers and teachers, and it always feels very vibrant to be there. The only thing that could improve it would be a little bit better inter-departmental communication, so students feel informed about what is going on within their respective department , and what other teams are up to.

I'm not really studying a course, I am a Postgraduate Researcher, so I have to structure a lot of my own time. But the facilities available are good for supporting this.

The staff are very knowledgeable and passionate about their subjects, and they are always eager to help. The courses offered are academically stimulating and consider new methodological and historiographical developments. The university organises a number of social as well as academic events, and the career services offer great advice on both finding employment and applying for postgraduate study. Additionally, the library and its special collections make Glasgow a great place to study history. The location is amazing with many parks, museums, shops and cafes around. The main building is beautiful and right next to a park, which makes it a perfect place to go for a walk in between studying. There's plenty to do in Glasgow, and it's easy to visit other Scottish cities. Some of the older facilities and their tech could be improved upon, and the current rental crisis in Glasgow means some students have had problems securing accommodation, but overall the University of Glasgow is wonderful for studying history.

The blended approach works well with history, and staff has done its best to adapt to both lockdowns and the current UCU strikes. Lecturers are always ready to meet students outside class time to discuss any questions and concerns. The faculty does its best to support history students in finding employment in the field, including career advice and offering internships.
