Really love being at bath uni - campus has stuff going on all the time, there's loads of res life events and most of them are free. They run movie nights, arts and crafts, day trips. I particularly loved the paint your own frame night, pumpkin carving, and watching love actually at Christmas. - the student union (plug) is really nice, quiet in the day so you can study and hang out. And quite busy in the evenings. The tub (night club) was great in freshers but is now dead on the weekends. Best to head to town for clubbing except from Wednesdays where the tub is great for Score. - campus and the city feel safe, I've never felt anxious walking alone

Social sciences so far I love it. First year you're with sociology students, social policy students and social work students all studying the fundamental part of the course which is sociology. Once a week we have 2 hours in our tutorials. This is a group of 20 of us with our tutor who helps us learn academic skills. This is where I learnt to reference and improve my writing. It's a comfortable environment where we all contribute and I never feel ashamed. It's a really nice part of university as it's like School where you can make friends and get support from your tutor, whereas it's much harder to do this in lecture halls. Within the 2 hour session we do a mental health check in where we talk about what went well this week and what didn't. I love this element as everyone is very honest and you don't feel alone in negative experiences. For example people would often share that they are struggling cooking, struggling to make friends, finding the reading hard this week, finding themselves procrastinating. And then others contribute ways that they find the reading more manageable. All of my lectures for my units all release the PowerPoint at least a day early so you can make notes in advance so it's easier to follow on. Additionally all our lectures are recorded so you can go back on them. Some PowerPoints are very detailed notes that I copy down, other modules their slides have less information on so you have to do a lot of listening and focusing. Pros and cons to both of these. The reading so far has been between 2 pages and 2 chapters per module per week which is manageable. Some readings I've found are vital for understanding the lecture, some readings are background reading and so are important for exams to show your knowledge, and others are sometimes pointless. So far year 1 semester 1 our assignments have just been essays with a month to write them. For example we get told in October to write a 1500 essay due in December, so you have plenty of time. We also have a portfolio which is around 30% of year 1 grade. In the portfolio it's 6 entries of normally 200 words. One of them would be '200 words reflect on something you've learnt this week' '200 words reflecting on ethics in research'. We had the whole of semester one to complete the portfolio but encouraged to do 1 every 2 weeks to keep on top. So far I am happy with my course and really grateful I chose it.

I highly highly recommend Norwood House. It's the cheapest on campus and also the accommodation with the worst reputation. I strongly disagree with the hate it gets and I'm so grateful I chose Norwood house. The location is amazing, it's the central point of campus. A lot of people say it's noisy but I don't think it's an issue really at all. In freshers week it was the most noisiest it was and it wasn't that bad. In freshers week they had Bath radio below Norwood house on the parade and so during the day a few times that week you would hear music however jt stopped at 4 and it was actually quite nice. You could barely hear it if you shut your window. It's above the student union, you barely hear the music, I only hear students outside queuing or going home. But this is rare as the tub is quite dead, most people go into town. The shared bathroom situation is absolutely fine, I was really anxious for it but it's so worth the money. I think I've only been to the toilet 3 times and there's been someone else using it. Only once I've had to use the shower and both of them were occupied. My flat situation is unique and so I am quite lucky as there's 9 of us, but one girl has a studio room due to special requirements so she doesn't use the bathroom or kitchen. And other girl has a half studio room so she has a kitchen and toilet, but uses our shower. So we have 7 people sharing the kitchen and toilet and 8 people sharing the showers. 2 toilets,2 showers. The kitchen is really spacious and it's much better than the other accommodations I've been in. We have so much worktop surface which is really nice. We have large window sills so we came up with the idea of us all having a washing up bowl and we leave our individual one on the window sill so there's no pressure to wash up. Everyone does it within 24 hours however you don't feel guilty leaving it if you're late to a lecture. We have so many cupboards, I've ended up with 4! It's important to note that most of my flatmates don't cook, they just cook chicken nuggets in the oven therefore they don't need many cupboards. But I worked out we would all have 2-3 each if we equally shared. Most accommodations you only get 1. Bins get changed for you the first 6 weeks, then you have to get the lift down to floor 1 to the bin area. Laundry is floor 4 and it's normally fine, just have to do it at a quiet time. I tend to do it when I don't have lectures as it's busiest weekends, especially Sunday evening. The lift is fine. There's rumours that it stops at 11pm. This is true but you can work round it. If you come back on a night out you can press down when you're outside the lift, once you're in, you can press your floor number and it will take you up. It just doesn't work calling the lift to take you up. You have to trick it. The lift has broken quite a few times. It's always fixed between 1-48 hours but it's annoying as I'm floor 9. The heating is great, I'm always cold so I have me heating on setting 5 and my room is always so toasty and warm. It turns off at midnight and comes on at I think 6am. The bedrooms are so so good. So much space for storage. Really good. So many drawers and shelves. And comes with a wash basin. I wasn't that fussed about having a sink in my room, I would've chosen to pay £4 less a week to not have it. But it's the best thing ever. I missed it so much in the Christmas holidays. Highly recommend if you don't choose Norwood house to choose a room with a sink. University of Bath doesn't kick out students in holidays, I know a lot of universities make you pack your stuff at Christmas as they rent it out to other people, but that doesn't happen at all here.
