I have only been at York for a term, but so far all of the support and admin services have been great. My department has also been particularly helpful in checking up on me. There are lots of things to do on campus. and also, in the wider York city. There are also lots of events for postgraduate students to get involved in as well!

The course is taught very well- there is an emphasis on actually enjoying learning and exploration, rather than it just being about memory technique and learning to pass an exam. All of the lecturers in the department are experts in their field and are genuinely helpful and friendly. I have also made lots of friends within the wider department community on other courses, including PhD students, which adds to the great community feel.

The university bus service, while good value for money (10 single trips for 10 pounds), can be quite unreliable and quite packed, so I would always advise leaving early if you are catching the bus. The city itself has so many places to explore- there are so many nice independent cafes and restaurants, and you are never more than a 10–15-minute walk from anything if you are in the centre of town. There are also plenty of places to drink with friends and socialise, and historical attractions to visit.

There were some issues when moving into my accommodation such as a leaking shower etc. However, any issues you do report are really quickly solved in my experience. Alcuin is a good location to the bus stops, the library, and other general campus facilities are within a 5-10 minute walk and has cafes and a Nisa nearby.

I would tell new students coming to york to look at the spaces around campus to study in and not just the library. During exam times leave the library for the second and their years who want to study and go and find somewhere like the computer rooms!
