Despite coronavirus, this year has been a lovely learning experience to develop myself and understand my career goals. There have been some challenges but the lecturers, supervisors and friends I’ve made along the way have helped to ground me and made the short experience of university a sweet one.

The housing and services are generally clean and accessible, with lots of shared spaces and equipment that is easy to hire. However, due to their age, they are often specially tailored towards able-bodied people. For example, lots of steps and narrow halls.

Each college provides a level of counselling - and you don’t have to be referred which makes it less daunting. There are also nurses and physios to help with physical issues

Initially taught as a blended learning but moved completely online as the lockdown rules changed. The lecturers were very accommodating and made the learning a lot more manageable. It is usually easy to contact lectures outside of office hours and they are usually able to help discuss future prospects.

There are lots of opportunities for career development. You work closely with experts in their fields and gain insight into their responsibilities. There are lots of workshops and internships leas by external speakers - often advertised through email - that aim to boost your career.

I’ve enjoyed it but it’s not for everyone. It’s hard work and it’s not always easy or well organised but it is a global hub of research and a gorgeous city so in my opinion that’s made it a nice city to be in for 5 years
