It’s a great place to study in my opinion, I’ve always said it feels student based rather than a business just trying to make money of students and that’s the best feeling :) feels like a welcoming home. The only thing is, guests can only stay 2 nights. That’s fine for someone that’s just round the corner but when they’re travelling 5 hours it’s really not convenient. I suffer with pretty bad mental heath illnesses and sometimes need that extra support from my partner but that’s not really possible with only the 2 nights as he won’t be coming back for at least a month plus. I get the security and reasonings but when it gets to a point where I’m worried for myself it’s very lonely and scary for me. Also people coming from abroad are able to have more time but a flight from Northern Ireland to London is only like an hour and a half then travel from London to here is like a 30 min - and hour train so in total that’s 2 - 3 hours yet my partner is travelling for 5 and he isn’t eligible for that extra time. I have spoken to services and was given extra couple nights just this once but what about the rest of the time ? This is an on going issue for us especially when I’m not in a great position myself as I said I understand the reasonings and I always try get both sides of the story but it’s just something that really isn’t convenient for us and is very expensive just for 2 nights. Either way over all it’s a very good place to study and I wouldn’t want to go anywhere else it’s just the guest procedure that doesn’t sit right with me.

With my new module I have a new tutor that’s amazing. First term though I had 2 tutors and one of them left and was given another one. The one that left didn’t help at all, you were supposed to know everything and was such a pain for him when you asked for help. It was very hard to learn anything and I just felt stuck like others in the class. My other tutor is a lovely person who did her best to help and explain things well the only issue is that the room we were put in never had working facilities. The software would never work and we weren’t changed to another room even though that would have solved all our issues. For a good month I didn’t really learn anything due to this and a not so great tutor I had to sort of teach myself and use notes I’d taken down from my other tutor that was good. Moving onto my new term and working on animation were in a different room and an amazing tutor. That’s great however the first term was completely wasted on a bad tutor , tutor supplies and no working tech yet I paid for it…. Either way I try look on the bright side and I’m still great full for my place here was just a bit of a let down I suppose.

Wifi always goes off it’s not great when you’re in the middle of doing work. I also already mentioned the guest procedure issues but other than that everything is perfect!

Best part of studying: Reliable technology and overall lower cost compared to other universities. Worst part of studying: Tech can sometimes be temperamental - failing or having difficulty loading - experienced by me earlier this week.

The best aspect of my course is the variation in modules and the reliability of the lecturers. There’s always something interesting to learn and grow from when trying out a new module, and if you get stuck on something you can always ask the lecturer for help. All of the course is taught in-person for me, which does help a lot when working on something difficult, making it easier to ask for assistance. On the other hand, perhaps the worst part of this is unexpected artefacts in your work, that can usually arise when trying something for the first time. This, of course, can be fixed with the aid of your lecturer though.

I really enjoy the overall balance between cost and functionality, with conventient kitchen and direct en-suite facilities. The WiFi, too, is fairly good and reliable, though I find it better to interchange networks if one is a bit slow. Not too keen on the fire alarms though - they’re quite noisy and unpredictable (apart from the weekly testing).
