The university itself is a beautiful and busy place to study, there always seems to be something going on and there’s plenty of societies which serve to help students make new connections. The Student Union is a lovely place, the mood and atmosphere is brilliant. The SU staff are friendly and helpful. There is also a well-being team provided by the school which is incredibly helpful, but admittedly overstretched due to the volume of students. Thus far I have enjoyed my course, and find myself at time genuinely enthralled by the topics being shared. My only problem that I’ve faced at YSJ is the accommodation, and this is a problem in multiple parts. Primarily it was left in such a state then when I arrived I found both my drains clogged and my shower curtain blackened. Additionally the fire alarm has given me a great headache as the staff seem powerless to turn off the noise, leading to waits of over an hour just to get back inside during the winter.
Overall YSJ is a lovely place to study, its proximity to the center as well as its outstanding SU and courses have made me very happy to have come all the way from the United States to study there. York as a town is beautiful, and the uni is no exception. My only real issue lies with accommodation, and if I were in a different housing setup these issues might well be gone.

Fire alarms in central don’t appear to work properly, many times I’ve been stuck outside upwards of 50 minutes waiting to get inside over a false alarm. After one such event we were told the drill later that day had been cancelled via email, only for the drill to be held anyway. The state of my room when I arrived was not ideal. My drains were clogged and if either my shower or sink was used led to flooding in the bathroom, while I have no idea what enabled it to become quite so bad, the contents of the drains was absolutely appalling. The shower curtain was also blackened, by what I do not know.
