Tell us about your overall university experience so far.

I have enjoyed university but cannot wait to leave education as it is very difficult to survive off the little amount of money that is provided by student finance, particularly when it is a personal debt that I will now have to pay off. It is unfair, particularly because the foundation year students that are now in my year have free money provided to them in a form of a grant that I have never seen.

Job Prospects

How does your uni make efforts to increase your employability (careers department, work placements, transferable skills)?

Holding lots of career events with constant emails about what career events are happening the following week. Providing us with skills for applying for jobs in an entire module during second year. Providing us with the relevant skills for potential jobs relating to the subject and informing us how important they may be outside of university. Using an AST format to allow any real world problems that aren't university based to be solved and helped.

Course and Lecturers

What do you like most and least about the way your course(s) are taught?

Mostly I like the relaxed nature of the student, lecturer relationship. A lecturer is contactable at all hours of the day and will reply to emails as soon as they are received. Least, I find that most of the modules I have completed during my 3 years of university have been the first time the modules have been ran and are therefore not very organised.

Students' Union

What do you think of your Students' Union in terms of student representation and facilities?

I use the union shop and night club. I think it is very expensive compared to other pubs/shops/clubs in the area. At the end of last year, a student rep had organised for entry into the night club to be free before 11 which was amazing but when this year started, that was dropped with no explanation. I am not in a society of club as I think they are far too expensive than what a normal student can afford without asking parents for extra help.

Uni Facilities

How good are your university's facilities?

The facilities are good. The improvements on the gym are fantastic but was awful all of last year when it was moved into a small, dirty studio whilst improvements on the other areas were being made the entire year.

Local life

Is your university in a good location in terms of distance to accommodation and local amenities?

I like Hull. Its a very nice city. Very welcoming and cheap to live in.

Societies and Sports

How would you rate the variety of societies/sports?

I am not in a club or society because they are too expensive and I cannot afford to join unless I ask my parents for extra money which they cannot provide. In that case, I believe that they are unwelcoming.

Student Support

How good is the support offered by the uni? Think both academic (tutors/feedback) and personal (counselling, etc).

Support is fantastic. We have mandatory contact time with tutors every fortnight.
