The university is very good at welcoming you and making you feel at home. However it does have some flaws, but that is only natural as not everything is perfect in the world. The grading system is a little off here at Bangor, you either get given a letter grade 'A-F3' or get given a percentage, which you then have to work out yourself into a first, second, third etc and none of the grades given are consistent, by this I mean they aren't all letters or they aren't all percentages, which can be quite confusing at times.
Facilities
How good are your university's facilities?
Plenty of computer rooms around main arts, deniol and school buildings, the library is great however if you have take a book home for a couple of days and some one recalls it you get charged a fine for not returning it even though it's not over due and you aren't even in Bangor. Little disgusting if you ask me.
Student support
How good is the support offered by the uni? Think both academic (tutors/feedback) and personal (counselling, etc).
If you need it, it's there for you. Pastoral care is top notch!
Students' union
What do you think of your Students' Union in terms of student representation and facilities?
The societies on offer are great, the students who do run the societies put so much hard work into it so everyone can enjoy it. However Bangor doesn't have a students union like other universities do. Pontio has been promised to students for quite a while now and it is still pretty poor that it hasn't been finished. The fact that students who have left have had it promised for their graduation is bad enough, but it still isn't finished now. This let's Bangor down by a lot, and the apology emails from the university don't cover everyone's disappointment. There is no where but library's for students to chill and do work in this university, which is very annoying considering other universities have common room type areas for students.
Local life
Is your university in a good location in terms of distance to accommodation and local amenities?
Bangors more of a town than a city, but it has everything you need bar a bowling alley and cinema, but one of these is rumoured to be going into Pontio.. If that's ever finished..
Societies and Sports
How would you rate the variety of societies/sports?
There are numerous clubs and societies available, with two serendipity fairs so you have a chance to join new clubs and societies in both semesters! Really good for societies here!
Lecturers and teaching quality
What do you like most and least about the way your course(s) are taught?
The courses that are on offer are good, some more module choices would be nice and the way they are marked could be slightly different. For example we spent (on my course) ages preparing and taking part in a Module debate which wasn't marked at all, and after the debate we had to do an essay which was either 40 or 50% now we would have all preferred if the debates would have been marked and as we found out from older students, this had been mentioned in the past but still nothing had been done about it even with module evaluations, so for me the biggest let down of the courses is that the lecturers clearly don't listen to what a student has to say.
Career prospects
How does your uni make efforts to increase your employability (careers department, work placements, transferable skills)?
There are plenty of opportunities within the uni to earn money, through open days, library schemes and internships. As well as opportunities to gain experience like course reps or ambassadors!
University halls
What do you think about the safety, condition, location and cost of your accommodation?
The halls residences are lovely and new, nothing bad to say about them at all.
