I have thoroughly enjoyed it in both the education side as well as socially. Academically, all the lecture slides are available online, and most of the lecturers record their lectures so if you miss one you can catch up on it, but these resources are great for revision too. The facilities on campus are great and easily accessible, for example the university library is open 24/7 and the main uni campus is located 5 minutes away from the National Library of Wales. The night life is great as the town friendly and although the town is not too small, should you loose your group of friends, chances are you will probably bump into someone you know pretty quickly. I have done my first set of exams and am fairly confident I have done well, so I would say I'm having a pretty good experience. The main downside is that Aberystwyth is shaped like a bowl where the town centre is at the bottom, so you have to go up a hill or down a hill depending on where you want to go but the taxis and busses are cheap and I could probably do with the exercise.

There is a YES (Year in Employment Scheme), which is optional but I intend on taking part, in which I will go on a work placement for a year. This will provide me with work experience and well as the chance to make some connections. There are some sources at the university which require you to take a year in industry, which I do think will improve employability but not every source offers this. There is some seminars/lectures in which a person will some in to talk about where they work, and how to get into that area of work. For example I attended a seminar in which a postgraduate came back to talk about his job role now and the steps that we could do in order to get into a similar aspect of work.

My course consists of both human and physical geography, I like going between the two different mindsets of both and I believe this gives me more career options than if I were to just choose physical or human geography. The best think about the lecturers is that some of them are very engaging, and will sometimes go off on a little rant which is humorous and in a way still relevant to the course. An example of this would be learning about the water cycle and the bottling of water. There was a funny rant about how ridiculous the prices of bottled water is especially when it is vastly cheaper and far more beneficial both financially and environmentally to get it from the tap.

There is a students union at the university, in which there is a pool table and bar/cafe, which I have gone to on occasions. There is also a shop but I do not go there due to the prices. I am aware that they have officers that do things at the union but I am not too sure what.

I think the university has great facilities easily available. There is a university library. It is called the Hugh Owen library and it has, books, computer rooms, printers, group study areas and quiet study areas as well as conference rooms which the society I am in uses, as well as others. There is plenty of sports facilities including a gym, swimming pool, tennis courts, hockey courts, running loop, as well as many sporting fields for large sporting events like rugby, football, lacrosse. Some of the football, rugby and lacrosse matches are covered by St John Ambulance which is reassuring especially for injuries.

Its more of a town, but I am very fond of it. The town is very student orientated, with something like the most pubs per capita and it has a great night life. The town is very friendly and there is all the necessary shops, which are fairly cheap, compared to the rest of the UK. I have never felt threatened in the town and it was ranked the safest area in the UK to be a student so that speaks for itself really.

There are many clubs and societies at the university, which were all at the freshers and refreshers fair so you could go and see them and pick the ones that take your fancy. I have joined the St John Ambulance Aberystwyth LINKS division, which has been very welcoming to the returning and new members and some members of the committee have gone and beyond in making me feel welcome as well as ensuring everything runs smoothly. The training offered has been very good, and there are many new qualified members. By doing the first aid with them, this often involved covering the many sports activities, which I have seen there are novice, to the more pro level of clubs, so if you are into sports, there will be a club that can accommodate your ability. I am in the GeogSoc (Geography Social) society, which does not require you to be studying geography, you can join anyway. We go on nights out to various pubs and clubs to enjoy the night life, however they also organise some trips, which can be to the nearby zoo, BBQ or the more further locations like Copenhagen. I have met many a new friend in both the societies I have joined, an feel welcome in both.

We each have our own personal tutor, which we meet every 2 weeks, who helps and ensures that we get a grips with things like referencing in the correct way, as well as what is expected of us to put into our work. They are available by email if we require any assistance and concerns as well. the personal tutor will also ask about how are we settling in and the more welfare side of things, not just work based. All feedback from work we hand in has to be marked within a time limit which I think is 15 working days, so feedback is fast. If you have any queries about the lectures, then it is encouraged you contact the lecturer or go and see them in their office. If needed there is a careers office, finance centre as well as personal counselling, which is available.
