Personally I've found it a great place to study chemistry as the chemistry buildings are very good especially the laboratory building. I don't have anything to say on how the chemistry department could improve. However, the one aspect that I have found to require improvement is the sport, whether it be at collegiate or university level. Through my experience of playing football for both so far, I have come the have the opinion that they're both quite underfunded with both teams I play for struggling to afford essentials for example the footballs themselves.

I like the way that my course is structured with the main lectures being with the whole year group taking the course, then workshops being a small percentage of the year group and then tutorials being an even smaller percentage of the course still allowing you to ask questions the the professors about areas that you haven't understood during the lectures. To be quite honest, I can't think of a bad aspect of the course so far.

It feels very expensive for what you get when compared to accommodation at other universities such as in Leeds but when compared to other University of York accommodation prices I suppose it will do. You get the basics for what you need to live and to be fair, the room is a lot bigger than I was expecting. The location isn't ideal as it feels like it's off campus and the nearest supermarket is a 30 minute walk away, However I am next to the sports fields which is nice for when I have football fixtures on the 22 acres. One thing that annoyed me though was when I went to clean my shoes at the only outdoor tap in the college, I found that there was no handle on the tap to actually turn it on.

The Chemistry department at York is always very supportive and great at making sure everyone integrates in well. The ability to switch between the BSc and MChem routes anytime before the end of the 2nd year is also highly appreciated as many students tend to switch from BSc to MChem.

We get around 20 contact hours each week which is one of the highest for the courses that York offers. This includes a full day of labs which provides invaluable hands-on experience and is extremely beneficial for future career prospects. We also have tutorials and workshops almost entirely hosted by lecturers rather than GTAs or other students which I like as the lecturers are often far more knowledgeable.

Derwent is one of the older buildings but I got a pretty nice room and for the price it would be quite difficult to find anything better.
