The University of Hertfordshire provides well-equipped facilities that support students throughout their learning journey. The staff and university as a whole are very student-focused, offering a wide range of support, from financial assistance to counselling and accommodation services. My course, in particular, values student feedback and is always open to making improvements based on our experiences. That said, some of the facilities are in desperate need of renovation, although I appreciate that work is already underway. The multi-story car park has ongoing issues with leaks, Hutton Hub also suffers from leaks and has a persistent smell of mold, and the classroom chairs could use a deep clean, as the fabric is often stained from frequent use. While these issues don’t take away from the quality of education, addressing them would greatly enhance the overall student experience.

The Dietetics course at the University of Hertfordshire is well-organised, with activities that effectively support learning and skill development. The structure of the course ensures that students are well-prepared for their future careers, and the lecturers are supportive and approachable. However, the course could benefit from a more hybrid approach. Currently, around 99% of teaching is face-to-face, but incorporating some online elements could help improve the balance between student life and education. Certain aspects of the course, such as lectures or tutorial sessions, could be delivered online, which would allow for more flexibility and potentially enhance engagement.

I absolutely love the vibrant community at my university. From engaging professors to supportive classmates, there's always a sense of collaboration and camaraderie that makes studying here incredibly rewarding. The variety of extracurricular activities and clubs also adds to the richness of the experience, allowing students to pursue their passions beyond the classroom. While my university offers a fantastic learning environment, there are areas that could be improved to enhance the overall experience. One aspect that stands out is the need for more resources and support for mental health services. As students, we face various challenges, and having readily accessible counseling and mental health support would greatly benefit the well-being of the student body. Additionally, streamlining administrative processes and improving communication channels between faculty and students would contribute to a smoother university experience for everyone.

The face-to-face learning format of my course has been incredibly beneficial in fostering a sense of community and engagement among students. Being physically present in the classroom allows for immediate interaction with both lecturers and peers, facilitating active discussions and collaboration. The course hours are well-structured, providing ample time for in-depth exploration of topics and practical applications of learning concepts. Additionally, the direct contact with lecturers during class sessions has been instrumental in clarifying doubts and receiving personalized feedback, enhancing the overall learning experience. Furthermore, the practice of recording lectures ensures inclusivity, allowing all students to access course materials and review content at their own pace. One of the challenges we face in our course is the condition of the subject facilities. The diet lab is outdated, which can hinder our ability to engage in hands-on learning experiences effectively. Similarly, the science building is in need of a revamp, especially the bathroom facilities. Addressing these infrastructure issues would greatly improve the overall learning environment and contribute to a more positive educational experience for all students.

Hatfield's location offers a perfect blend of convenience and charm for students. Its proximity to London provides easy access to a wealth of cultural and career opportunities, making it an ideal hub for exploration beyond the campus. The town itself boasts a vibrant atmosphere, with a variety of shops, restaurants, and recreational facilities catering to diverse interests. The presence of green spaces and parks offers a refreshing escape from the hustle and bustle of city life, providing students with tranquil spots for relaxation and outdoor activities. Additionally, Hatfield's rich history and cultural heritage add character to the town, creating a unique backdrop for student life. While Hatfield offers many benefits, there are some aspects that students may find challenging. The cost of living in the area, particularly accommodation expenses, can be relatively high, which may pose financial constraints for some students. Additionally, transportation options, while convenient for accessing London, may be limited for travel within Hatfield and surrounding areas, especially during off-peak hours. Addressing these challenges through initiatives to improve affordability and transportation infrastructure could enhance the overall student experience in Hatfield.
