Overall Experience:Kingston University has been an incredible place to study Fashion Design, and I’m thrilled to give it a 5-star overall rating. Best Aspects:The best part of my experience has been the world-class facilities in the fashion studios. The well-equipped sewing rooms, digital design labs, and access to professional materials like premium fabrics have allowed me to bring my creative visions to life. The location in London is also a huge advantage; being in the heart of a global fashion capital means constant inspiration and easy access to industry events like London Fashion Week. The campus itself is vibrant and welcoming, with a strong sense of community among creative students. The student support services, particularly the career guidance tailored to the fashion industry, have been invaluable in helping me connect with internships and build my professional network. Areas for Improvement:While the experience is overwhelmingly positive, the Students' Union could improve by offering more targeted events and workshops specifically for fashion and design students. More frequent industry talks, portfolio reviews, and networking mixers would further bridge the gap between academia and the professional world.

Strengths of the course:As a Fashion Design student at Kingston, the course is incredibly comprehensive and industry-focused. The curriculum balances creative theory with hands-on technical skills, from pattern cutting to digital design. Lecturers, who are active industry professionals, provide exceptional, constructive feedback, and dedicated tutor time ensures personalized support. The world-class fashion studios and material library let me fully realize my creative ideas. Areas for improvement:The main area for improvement is work placement support. More structured guidance, industry partnerships, and placement officers would help students secure internships. Additionally, more targeted career workshops and networking events would better prepare us for diverse fashion careers, from luxury design to sustainable fashion.

I really enjoy living in university accommodation overall—it’s clean, well-maintained, and the ensuite rooms are a great perk. What I love most is the sense of community and the convenience of having everything I need on campus. The security and 24/7 support also make me feel safe and at home. However, there are a few small things that could be improved. As a female student, I find the distance to the shared bins quite challenging. Carrying heavy rubbish bags up and down the corridor can be tiring. Additionally, my ensuite block doesn’t have a lift, so I have to climb three flights of stairs every time I move in or return from shopping with heavy bags, which can be physically demanding. The laundry room is also much closer to the studio accommodation, making it a long and inconvenient walk for students in my building.

Best experience is the connections the uni provided during my placement year with established brands. I had a very fruitful time during my year out and learnt a lot through my time in industry. The uni has great range of 3D making and digital making facilities for art and design students. However, worst experience would be the lack of space due to high influx of students in each year. Sometimes there is barely any table or sufficient machines within the department. They had to extend the teaching times in the first year and even then there are too many students.

En-suite and 15mins to uni to uni which was good But Very old halls of residence. Not much amenities in the area. Fridge was always leaking and walls were thin and not sound proofed. Security and management was unhelpful when I had an unpleasant housemate smoking drugs every night.
