The University is located in the city centre, which makes commuting really easy. As Preston is a very cheap city, living expenses are quite low compared to other Northern cities, which alleviates the financial burden of being a self-financed student. And student accommodations are really cheap here! The library has several PC pools, a vast array of literature, and the staff is friendly and accommodating. Overall, I'd say that the academic staff is friendly, but I might say so because I am French and we do not share such friendly bounds with Professors and Lecturers back there -so it might just be a cultural thing. But still, the staff is very friendly at UCLan! The University also organises plethora of events, which is very enjoyable, especially when you are given opportunities in engaging in them. For example, I was lucky enough to volunteer for a lecture given by the former Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-Moon. There are also several conferences on all kind of topics to attend, as well as diverse events organised by the Student Union. I have also received several emails that mentioned student trips to National Parks in Wales or in the Lake District, which is super exciting if you wish to travel with a group. I must however say that, as an international student who's not familiar with the British higher education system, I felt overwhelmed upon arrival and did not receive all the help I felt I needed back then. I simply did not know who to refer to for administrative tasks, and was sometimes left with unanswered questions. Another problem that I faced at UCLan is that I, alongside my PhD cohort, did not get access to an office for us to work in. I thus had to find empty rooms here and there to study. As tuition fees are really expensive in the UK, especially for international students, I would have assumed that having access to an open-space office for PhD students was a given, and I was unfortunately wrong.

As a PhD student, the only class that I took part in was taught by my Director or Studies, so I do not think my answer to that question are appropriate. I must however say that the course's content was really interesting, and the facilities really great. All audiovisual equipment worked perfectly. The class was 3 hours long, taught once a week for a whole semester.

Every department is very friendly and helpful. They make me feel more confident and guide me properly on how to do my best for my course and what I should not miss during my term time.

I haven't attented any classes as of now because I recently arrived in UK and I am looking forward to joining my classes from upcoming days.

I love almost everything about my university location. I am still exploring and till now I don't think there is anything that I don't like.
