There are 2 main reasons why I chose tk study at UoN. Firstly, they rank third in the U.K. for my course and as someone who comes from a family that strongly values academics that made Nottingham a very appealing choice especially for an international student. The university did not disappoint in that aspect since the facilities and labs are cutting edge and professors are not only knowledgeable but deliver information in an interactive way that makes me not only engaged with the lesson but also makes me enjoy the content very much. Secondly, the campus. As an international student graduating high school during covid it wasn’t possible for me to visit the campus in person and so I relied on a lot of photos and videos to decide on whether I wanted to study here. Finally coming to campus was very surreal in the beginning, especially seeing Trent building for the first time. I now do not only get to enjoy the lake, the Trent clock tower and the greenery of our beautiful campus I also get to experience the incredible engineering labs with amazing technology. The only thing that I wish the uni would improve on is the shuttle bus service as the buses are often unreliable although the fact that this service exists has put me more at ease, especially during snowy days.

Currently all of our lectures are taught in person but are also streamed and recorded for those students isolating or unable to come into the U.K. This makes life very simple and reduced my stress about missing lectures. Although a lot of the time it’s hard to read the board when watching a streamed lecture. Compared to my hall mates, my course has a lot more contact hours ranging between 20-50 contact hours a week depending on labs and practicals. Although that seems like a lot and I do sometimes feel slightly overwhelmed when I see my timetable, I tend to forget about that during lectures and considering that I’m studying a technical degree I’m glad I get as much time as I do in labs and workshops. Our lecturers are very easy to get in contact with. All of them set up tutorials or drop in sessions for those of us struggling. Some even stay after lectures to answer questions. It is also super easy to email them and they always respond very quickly, usually they don’t take longer than 3 hours to respond. All of our lectures have offices in one area and they tell us where these offices are in case we have questions that need to be asked in person during working hours.

I really like the common room facilities. We have a projector room where we can all go to watch a film and we have a pool table too. My main issue with the uni accommodation is probably the food. Although it has improved since semester 1.

Best nightlife, always something to do. Theres tons of different courses for different people, you get to meet such a range. Its an amazing atmosphere, strong student community but the towns not too far. So much fun! Also good for getting a job.
