I can't imagine attending another university. Exeters Cornwall Campus has the best Bioscience department by far, with experts in a variety of fields all still practicing in their respective fields. The campus itself is fairly small which gives it an intimate feel where you don't feel drowned out by the crowds. Cornwall has some stunning sceneries, with a beach literally just a stones throw away in all directions!! The facilities are great with a new library just been built and lots of new things planned for the future. The Bioscience department have an amazing employability committee led by students (BSEC - Bioscience Student Employability Committee) which gives students the opportunity to meet people in the field, hear about how they got there and find out about what volunteering opportunities they have on offer.

There isn't much of a city life, but I really enjoyed going out in the few clubs Falmouth has and it can be a really fun night! There are loads of great pubs to try including Beerwolf which has its own bookshop and Handbar which specialises in beers from around the world!

EcoSoc the ecological society offers a variety of fantastic events such as mammal trapping, bird walks, ID for Idiots, trips to see murmurations and deer and much much more!! I would recommend becoming part of the committee as you meet great like minded individuals and it gives you great skills for your CV.

The student let Bioscience Student Employability Commitee put on weekly seminars during the Winter and Spring term and an annual Bioscience Careers Fair which offers great opportunities to meet individuals from within the field. The Career Zone provides great help with CV and employability skills and the Bioscience lecturers really push how important it is to gain experience and not just rely on your CV.

I think on the Penryn campus, it really challenges me, especially coming from a great city and country like Singapore. I have never experienced such growth within myself since I first came to the UK. I think if it were back home, I would still be the same or a similar type of person three years later. This campus, although small and in the countryside, has really lived up to being the campus focusing on sustainability and the environment, such as how the buildings are designed to be more energy efficient and also having sufficient green spaces for students studying environment-related studies to explore and add value to their academic experience. Additionally, I think in a smaller campus, it is easier to make friends as well as bond easily within societies and in classes. Smaller groups tend to have a deeper and more meaningful experience, which really helped me be more passionate in my studies and curriculum activities. Additionally, this campus is situated near Falmouth, which is the bigger town beside Penryn, and despite it being small, it feels homely and you will definitely not feel out of place, as there are many activities going on throughout the year. One piece of advice for anyone thinking of coming here is to really find out more about this place before applying. If you are someone who really loves city vibes and just convenience in general, you might not love it as much because to get groceries, you would have to travel a distance to the superstore near campus or if you live in falmouth you would have to travel to campus by bus which is almost 20 minutes. If you are out to challenge yourself, get out of your comfort zone especially if you have been living in big cities and all, I would say Penryn campus would be an ideal place for you to learn more about yourself and push your limits, and also aim to be the best version of yourself by the time you graduate.

I think overall, teaching and classes have been really amazing. As my course is relatively small with only 28 people in my year, I find it to be more engaging and easier to ask my lecturers questions. Some classes are taught online if lecturers are unable to attend in person and thus far, it has been smooth-sailing. My course has been developed constantly and the feedback given has been heard and acted upon. I would say plan your modules well to prevent the clashing of schedules too.

I stayed in a private accommodation, but it was one of the choices given before I entered university. It is conveniently located near Penryn station and is only a 15-minute walk to campus. It is slightly more expensive than the halls on campus, but I was happy with it since it helped prepare me to stay away from campus in my second and final year. In terms of facilities, it did not have much sharing or communal areas like others I have seen, such as pool tables or even just a lounge area. I feel that if they did have that, it would surely enhance the first year university experience, where more people can socialise and have fun.
